She gestured towards a metal sleeper. Chad and Josh sat down, but she stayed standing.

“He responded to a job advert for new bar staff for Goddess. He told me he was unhappy working at The Desperado. His rate of pay and his holiday allowance left a lot to be desired.” She paused. “You should look at that, what Pete is doing over there is criminal.”

“Pete seems to think you might have something to do with the murders,” Josh said. “And Julie from TIDE.”

Chad shot him a glare.

Olivia laughed. “Ian, did you hear that? They’re accusing me of murder.”

Chad shifted. “No one is accusing you of murder.”

“Except for Pete Jamerson.”

Josh nodded. “Except for him.”

Iantrudged over. A big man, muscular, wide, and with a face of thunder he attached to Chad. He powered over, fully intent on invading Chad’s personal space.

Shit.

“Fucking Pete Jamerson!”

Chad’s heart started galloping until Josh stood up. Josh, who Chad no longer flinched around whenever their arms accidentally touched. He was a giant of a man and had recognized the posturing of another giant man. They glared at each other. Josh flexing his muscles, and Ian doing the same.

“They’re detectives,” Olivia said. She licked her lips, watching Josh’s subtle displays of dominance. Josh wasn’t smiling or smirking anymore, but eyeballing Ian. Chad imagined he used the same face in the gym. He positioned half of his body in front of Chad, ready to swoop in and save him from Ian.

“We aren’t accusing you of murder.” Chad got to his feet. “Pete has no evidence, he’s just lashing out.”

Olivia waved Ian away, who stomped back to the office. Josh stopped posturing, but Olivia continued to look him up and down. “So you’re not here to arrest me?”

Chad shook his head, but Olivia’s gaze stayed fixed on Josh.

“Because I’m warning you now, I’m tricky to handcuff…”

“Yeah?” Josh whispered.

Olivia nodded. “I’ll be more likely to steal them from your hip and use them on you.”

Chad cleared his throat. “Let’s stay on topic—”

“I like your tattoo,” Olivia said, pulling down Josh’s collar. “I have the most amazing Sonya cosplay outfit.”

Josh’s eyes lit up. “Really?”

“It’s naughty.”

“How naughty?”

Olivia slid her phone from her pocket. “Want to see some pictures?”

“Detective Constable Fuller.”

Chad winced at Ally’s shout. Josh curled over, positioning his hand to hide his crotch. If anything, it made his arousal more obvious.

“We’re investigating the deaths of two young men.”

“I know—”

“Then can you refrain from getting hard at the flutter of some eyelashes.”
