“Saturday?”

Josh checked over his shoulder before slipping his hand into his jacket. He pulled out two VIP tickets, flashed them at Chad, and then put them back in his inside pocket.

“Are they for The Desperado?”

“Yep. ‘Pete Jamerson’s Villainous Spectacular’.”

“You’re not suggesting we go, are you?”

Josh held up his hands. “All I’m saying is The DI can ground you while you’re at work, but not on your day off.”

“It’s a terrible idea.”

“It’s been three weeks since Justin was found, and so far, we’re no closer to finding out who killed him or Damian. Maybe going undercover at The Desperado is our best option.”

“It’s a bad option. Really bad.”

“Look we go, see if we can find any information, and if we can’t, it’s a fun night out.”

“Fun night out?” Chad ran his hand over his hair. “It’s a night celebrating monsters and killers … we’re detectives working an active case. Do you know how bad that’ll look?”

“We’ll be wearing masks, no one will even know it’s us.”

“There’s no way, Josh.”

“Someone in that club knows why Justin and Damian were murdered. They know why Tate wasn’t and what Romeo Knight has to do with any of it. Someone knows something, and we’re going to find out what.”

“You want to go clubbing with Josh on Saturday night?”

It was the fifth time Romeo had repeated himself. Each time Chad replied, Romeo ignored it, and stared higher and higher on the wall behind him.

Chad turned to check nothing was crawling onto the ceiling.

“It’s for the investigation,” Chad said, turning back to Romeo.

Romeo’s eyes had glazed over. His lack of response had a lump forming in Chad’s throat. He cleared it. “To see if we can find some information undercover.”

“You want to go clubbing with Josh on Saturday night?”

Chad groaned. “Not want. I need to go.”

“Youneedto go clubbing with Josh on Saturday night?”

“Romeo, look at me.”

His focus snapped to Chad. The sight of his red eyes made Chad’s sting. “I’d much prefer to be at home with you.” Chad titled his head. “Josh got tickets. It’s his idea to go.”

“It’s going to be a Killer Night I hear.”

“Right…”

“It’s been all over social media. All the tickets have sold out … and what serial killer are you going to dress as?”

“None.”

“I’ll be pretty damn mad if you dress up as a killer other than me.”
