“Nothing special.”

Dean clicked his tongue to the roof of his mouth. “Don’t say that.” He leaned the bar and peered through the eyeholes of Chad’s masks. “Big brown eyes. I love big brown eyes.”

Chad shuddered.

Dean moved away and got drinks for the group beside them.

“So, Big Brown Eyes, if you’re not into horror, what are you into?”

“Sci-fi.”

“Snap.” Dean hiked up his eyebrow. “Have you been watching that new series? The one with captain Merge.”

“I never miss an episode.”

“Well, I watch them twice in one go.”

“Why?”

“To make sure I’ve not missed anything. Call yourself a superfan.” Dean shook his head. “Captain Merge would be ashamed.”

Chad smiled.

“I can tell you’re smiling.”

“No, you can’t.”

Dean grinned. “I so can and you’ve got a lovely one.”

Josh crashed into the bar and pointed at Dean. “Wait. Who are you dressed as?”

“The Countdown Killer.”

Chad braced himself.

Josh turned to him and grabbed his arm. “Shit. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

Dean craned his neck closer. “Why wouldn’t he be?”

“No reason.”

“This is Dean,” Chad gestured to him. “He’s only been working here for three hours.”

“Three hours?”

“The normal staff refused to work.”

“Why?”

Chad shrugged. He patted Josh’s shoulder. “I’m good here.”

“You sure?”

“Go. Have fun.”

Josh was pulled away by a woman in a skin-tight catsuit, donning a devil mask. Chad glanced at her shoes and snorted at the black stilettos.
