“You’re after a killer who gets people into their car without force … there’s no such thing as nice, only people with agendas.”

“He’s not the killer.”

“You’re certain of that?”

Chad eyed Dean with suspicion. “I’m notcertain.”

“If I was the killer that had just lined you up as my next target and someone had walked in and foiled my plans I’d be acting pretty pissed, just like him.”

“He’s acting like that because of the hostile vibes coming off you.”

“Well, what do you expect?”

“Romeo.” Chad caught his hand and slipped their fingers together. “He’s not a threat.”

Romeo’s bicep stiffened. Chad frowned at his shoulders tensed to the max.

“He might not be, but I am,” Romeo rumbled in Chad’s ear.

Dean returned with a scowl and sloshed the beers as he set them down on the bar. “That’ll be eight pounds.”

Romeo reached over and slotted a ten-pound note in Dean’s suit pocket. “Keep the change.”

“I’d rather not.”

Dean slammed a few coins down on the bar and moved on.

Romeo turned to Chad. “We’ll have this then hit the dance floor.”

“I can’t dance—”

“We slow dance in the kitchen all the time.”

Chad shook his head. “That’s swaying, and we’ll look out of place if we do that here. We can’t draw attention to ourselves.”

He looked for Josh, but Romeo cupped his cheek and turned him back. “One dance.”

“You said that about the drinks, and now we’re on our second. Not to mention you’ve made an enemy out of the barman who is glaring at us.”

Romeo laughed. “Relax, Chad. Just enjoy me being here.”

“I don’t think I can.”

Despite his reservations, Chad still slipped the bottom of his mask up so he could drink his second beer.

****

It was crazy, absolutely crazy and reckless, and just plain stupid, but Chad couldn’t resist going along with Romeo’s wishes. Romeo, who glued himself to Chad’s back.

Nothing could get between them, not even air. The clubbers jumped and swayed, looming closer, and the lights spun and flashed, disorienting Chad to the point he closed his eyes.

It didn’t matter.

Romeo’s arms coiled around his middle. He wouldn’t let anything happen to Chad.

He’d kill everyone in the damn club if Chad asked him to. He swallowed, wondering if it had crossed Romeo’s mind. Whenever anyone came a little too close, Romeo pulled him away, tightening his arms around Chad’s stomach.

Anger vibrated Chad’s back and only softened when Chad fully pressed into him, surrendering to his firm hold.
