Dean shifted his jaw from side to side. “Two beers coming up, but just to let you know, I’m going to be keeping my eye on you tonight.”

Romeo stiffened. “Is that so…”

“Not you exactly, but your boyfriend. You’re giving off too many red flags to ignore. He’s uncomfortable you’re here and it makes me wonder why.”

Chad butted in. “I keep saying I’m fine. It’s unexpected, that’s all.”

“Whatever,” Dean said. He moved away to get their drinks.

“I don’t like him,” Romeo growled.

“Really? As if you weren’t making that more than obvious.”

“He was flirting with you.”

“He was being friendly.”

“I want to strangle the life out of him, right here and now over the bar, and it’s nothing to do with the monster.”

“That’s why it’s a good idea we leave.”

“You’d get aroused if I did.”

“No I wouldn’t.”

“I think we should put it to the test…”

Dean returned with two pints and put them down on the bar. “I’ll buy your boyfriend’s drink.”

“No, you fucking won’t.”

Romeo slapped the money down beside the glasses. “Keep the change.”

“Remember what I said, if you need a ride home, let me know and if you need to get away fromhim, I can have security escort him out.”

“I want him here.”

Chad had no idea what expression Romeo pulled, but he went still, predatory still. Chad’s gaze lingered on the fake blood splats on Romeo’s t-shirt.

“Romeo?”

He lifted his mask. Chad’s heart pounded, but Romeo only revealed his bristly chin and his lips, pressed in an unhappy line. He drank his beer, and Chad did the same. They both downed them. Romeo finished first and waited for Chad to take his last mouthful.

“Another drink,” he declared, staring a Dean.

Chad squeezed his arm. “I think we should go.”

“I’m not done here yet.”

Dean lifted his eyebrow. “Maybe you should listen to your boyfriend.”

“If I take him home you won’t be able to keep your eye on him, will you? And I could do anything to him … I could even impale him with one of those red flags you’ve claimed to have seen.” Romeo pushed the glass closer to Dean. “Two more pints.”

“Stop it.” Chad hissed in Romeo’s ear, “Stop winding him up.”

“He’s winding me up. Did he ask you to go home with him?”

“No, he said he could give me a lift if I needed it. He was being nice, Romeo.”
