Tesa shrugs, leaning back as she buckles herself into the seat. “Tori and I have been meaning to go in for an appointment as well, and Aaron and his stylists were thrilled when she texted him. It’ll be a fun, super chill pampering session,” she assured me.

I relax into my seat, excited for this. The drive isn’t far, and the parking lot is almost empty as Tori parks. It’s a brick building, with a pretty electric blue and purple sign sayingDyeing to Meet You.

Smirking at the name, Tori knocks on the door, waving at the people inside. Unlocking it, a tall man with gorgeous shoulder length hair greets us.

“Thank you for saving me from a high-stress day,” he says with a grin, letting us in before relocking the door. The blinds are all drawn, hiding us away from the outside world.

“Thank you for saving me from my hair,” I tease him with an answering smile. “I’m Lenny.”

Aaron nods, ushering us towards stations to sit at. “I’m Aaron, and resident hair slut. I’ll be working on your hair today, so show me what you’re thinking?”

His enthusiasm is infectious, and I grin, showing him photos. “Okay, perfect. Tori told me to make sure our station is well-ventilated,” Aaron says with a wink, “so we don’t worry about fumes from the color. Otherwise, this is no different from any other appointment.”

I appreciate his discretion in explaining that I essentially wouldn’t have to worry about being pregnant while getting my hair done. Sinking into the chair, I enjoy the chatter, giggling here and there.

I’ve never been able to have girlfriends to get my hair done, and this is a really nice change of pace. I can see my life stretching out in front of me in Georgetown, and I like what I see.

Tori and Tesa get haircuts and their nails done as I go through the process of doing my hair. Color always takes the longest, but I don’t mind. They get food brought in for the salon, and I moan as I eat my sandwich. Food is the best way to ensure that hanger doesn’t ruin your happiness vibe.

Aaron studiously keeps me facing away from the mirror so I won’t be able to peek, so when he turns me at the end, my jaw drops. Layers of bright, vibrant dark blue and purple frame my face and my lips pull into a smile.

“Oh my god,” I breathe, tears pricking my eyes. “You did an incredible job, thank you! I feel like I’m myself again.”

“It’s my pleasure. I could tell the blonde wasn’t your vibe. This is what Lenny should look like, and I’m so happy I could do this,” Aaron says with a wink.

I know he doesn’t truly know what this means to me. No one outside of myself knows how awful it felt to be forcibly controlled and demeaned the day I was stripped of the last of my identity.

But he managed to make me feel seen, and that’s worth everything. Tori pays the bill for the three of us as we compliment each other’s hair, walking out of the salon. It’s been hours since we went in, and my phone rings as we walk towards the car.

“Hi, Orion,” I murmur with a smile as Tori unlocks the door.

“You’ve been gone for a million years,”he groans. “I can see you’re walking, does this mean you’re done?”

This tracker is going to turn them all into stalkers.

“Yes, I’m getting into the car now, I promise,” I giggle. “Do you need anything from me?”

“I just need you. It’s been too long since I’ve seen you. I need topless cuddles and a makeout session at the bare minimum, little girl,”Orion growls and I sigh happily.

“Yes, sir,” I purr as Tori turns on the car. “I’ll be home soon, I promise.”

Tori and Tesa glance over their shoulders knowingly as I get comfortable in the back seat and I blush as I hang up.

“Apparently, I’m missed,” I giggle. I enjoy the trip home immensely, knowing what I’ll be greeted with.

Roark

Lennon’s hair was a hit when she got home, and I mentioned going out for New Years Eve. Her eyes lit up and I told her I’d handle it. She just glowed, and I know her hair was an ongoing issue for her.

I wouldn’t want to look like her mother, either. It’s hard enough looking in the mirror and knowing that my eyes are the exact shade of my own mum’s. Lying bitch.

“Greg, you have a second?” I ask, slipping out to the back porch to chat with him on the phone.

“Absolutely. The kids are napping, so I have a little time. What’s up?” he asks.

“I kind of sorta asked Lenny if she’d like to go out for New Years. I figured there would be enough people out that we could just be anonymous? She also looks completely different now that her hair is blue and purple,” I chuckle.

Greg thinks for a second, and I know he’s thinking through logistics. “Our friend Bear has a club called Spinning Cloud. They’re having an exclusive New Years’ Eve party, and he was asking if we’d be able to make it. Miguel won’t be able to come till later, because the shit needs to visit each of his own clubs and make sure everything is going well, but I think everyone else will want to go. It’s been awhile since we’ve been to visit Bear there,”Greg confirms. “Want to go?”
