“Hello, little Valkyrie,” Mav says, opening his arms for a hug. I barrel into them as if I didn’t just see him, but I refuse to believe I have infinite time for the people I love.

I want to cherish every moment, because I don’t know what’s around the corner.

“Oof,” he chuckles, giving me a squeeze. “Where were you off to just now, and whose car were you getting out of?”

A moving truck pulls in behind them, and my eyes widen as I see how efficient they are. Uncle Jordan strides out to meet them, with Turner seeing them, and walking out the front door to help direct them.

Hello happy family, here we come.

“Have you been writing, Lennon?” Layla asks, glancing at my hand clenching my notebook.

“I was, actually. I’m going to need to jam this out, guys, once the instruments are unloaded. You in?” I ask.

Mav and Atlas grin savagely at each other with a nod. They’ve always loved helping to tease and pull words out of me. They enjoy the process of making music.

“Layla, will you harmonize with me? I’m playing with the song, but I feel like it would be a pretty duet,” I call over my shoulder, so excited that I’m already walking up the porch steps.

“Wait… what? Me?” Layla asks, rushing after me.

“Welcome to the chaos of Lennon,” Atlas yells as he and Mav follow.

“Just go with it, Lay!” Mav laughs behind me. “Your sister is a hurricane when she’s like this, and we all are just lucky to survive it. But damn, do we make really fucking incredible music when it happens.”

“Oye! What’s happening?” Roark asks as we storm inside. “Lenny, are you okay?”

“Muse hit!” Derek calls out as he changes direction for the kitchen. “I’m getting snacks, is that okay?”

“God bless you, Derek,” Mav says with a chuckle. “Stabby Lenny would be rough with the muse riding her.”

I roll my eyes. “I’m only wearing one knife, it’s fine. Thanks baby for the food!” I yell at Derek as I open the door to the basement, turning on the light.

This is pretty much the first time that I’m coming down here, and I walk down the stairs carefully.

“Can you believe this is my first time in this space?” I ask with a shrug as I look around.

The basement is huge, and there’s plenty of space for more bedrooms, a gym, a recording studio, and a practice space.

“Wow,” Layla murmurs as she takes in the space.

“Lavender, are you down there?” Turner yells and I roll my eyes.

“Yes I am,” I say in a sing-song tone, half excited for the spanking I’m begging for. “Can you have the instruments put down here, pretty please?”

Turner grumbles and Atlas snickers. “Your ass should have a tattoo across it that says ‘begging to be spanked,’ Lennon,” Atlas chuckles.

Shrugging, I open my mouth to say something when I hear Uncle Jordan’s voice. “Hush,” I hiss. “I swear, my poor uncle is going to have to bleach his eyes and his ears at this rate,” I tell him.

Mav roars with laughter as the sounds of footsteps compete with him.

“I don’t want to know,” Uncle Jordan announces, looking around at us. “I hear inspiration struck?” I nod and my uncle grins. “Excellent, where do you want the instruments, Lennon?”

I explain where I want to set up, and soon the movers whisk everything downstairs before disappearing again.

“Where do you need us?” Mav asks, grabbing his guitar.

Roark kisses my forehead, and Derek has set water and snacks up on a table out of the way.

“I need Atlas’s keyboard so I can hear this song better,” I wince. I feel bad all of a sudden for stealing it away from him.
