I look down at myself, biting my lip. “I wonder if I can put the knife in my boot,” I sigh.

Derek picks up his phone with a snort, already calling Greg. Poor man, we bug him so much. “Hey, I wish I could say this is an odd favor, but it’s us. Lenny’s outfit doesn’t have a place for her knife, but she’s wearing combat boots. Do you have a boot holster by chance? That’s the only chance we have of Orion relaxing enough for us to leave the house,” he snarks.

Orion rolls his eyes, walking over and throwing his arm over Derek’s shoulder. “You love my overprotectiveness,” he says to Derek, who only smirks at him.

Jordan shakes his head, coming over to hug me. “So much damn testosterone in here, I don’t know how you do it,” Jordan tells me.

“Lavender does just fine,” Turner teases and I can see this is yet another conversation that may scar my uncle.

“Okay, okay, you’re all going to make me late if we don’t get moving,” I huff at them.

We’re planning on taking two cars to the club, and I shoo them out of the house. Greg walks across the lawn, handing the holster and another knife to Orion, who drops to his knees to put it on me.

“You need a smaller knife for your boot,” Greg explains, “or it’ll hurt when you walk or dance. I tried to make sure it had a good balance. Honestly, you shouldn’t need it tonight.”

Orion merely grunts, making sure it’s comfortably placed before standing. “It’s fucking freezing, little one. Please put this on,” he says, holding out a coat.

He’s right, it’s cold, and I shiver now that I’m outside. I was so busy getting everyone out the door, that I spaced on grabbing a coat.

“Thank you,” I tell him, wrapping myself up. Orion hustles me into one of the warming cars, and we are on our way.

“I know this is the only way to keep you safe, I just dislike that you’ll be so vulnerable,” Mav complains.

He jumped into our car at the last minute, and I have a feeling it’s because he has something on his mind.

“No one will be able to touch me,” I confirm. “You’re all being very sweet and overprotective, but I can kill a man by muscle memory alone now. I’m good. Now as much as I love you, what’s really on your mind?”

Mav mutters under his breath, and I hear him repeating some of the things I told him. “Okay, the deal is, I always thought your sister was going to be a part-time thing. I always planned to come back toThe Darkest Nights, and Atlas and I enjoyed flirting with her.”

I raise my eyebrow, because he’s never been one to play with someone’s feelings. “Nah, Lenny, it never went far. I’ve barely even kissed her. She’s so damn young, and now she’s freaking everywhere. I’m not sure what to do. It was bad enough when we lived in a bus together,” he grumbles.

“Mav, you better not be playing with my Layla’s emotions,” Roark says from the front seat, next to Turner.

“I’m not, at least I’m not trying to. Atlas and I are protective assholes, but we’re trying to let her do her thing, and enjoy life. Leo and Albert used to belittle her all of the time, and finally we were able to get Jordan to agree to cut them loose,” Mav explains. “I care about her, but I’m not sure if I can do this. She’s a damn virgin and practically a child!”

The last word is a roar, and I shake my head, semi disgusted with him. “My sister is going to be twenty-one in a month and half, and I love you both, but you don't deserve her right now. Layla has spent a lot of her life being sheltered. If you don’t stop fucking around, I’m going to start taking her out to meet people to date,” I threaten.

I’m mostly saying this to give him a wake up call, because we all travel so much typically, and I’m stuck in the house until at least mid-February. However, by the terror and jealousy that hits his eyes, I know I’ve made my point.

Derek pulls around the back of the club, where there’s a small lot for employees. I may not be an employee, but I’ll count for today.

“Lennon—” Mav groans and I shake my head as I step out of the car, adhering my mask to my face.

“Nope, this conversation is over for now. Get your head out of your ass,” I demand, walking over to my sister with a smile. Orion walks with us as I approach the back door to knock.

A giant of a man opens the door, and I look up with wide eyes. “Hi, I’m stepping in for Laura,” I tell him, which is what Bear told me to say.

The man nods, looking out at those following me. “You come with your own entourage, Goldie?” he asks and I smirk.

“Yep, is that gonna be a problem?” I ask, lips twisted in sass.

“Nope, I don’t get paid to make problems, just solve them,” he mutters, opening the door for us.

“Perfect,” I reply, striding through.

Bear is leaning against the wall at the end of the hallway, and he chuckles as he sees me shrugging out of my coat. “I’m surprised they let you out of the house, girlie,” he says.

Handing my coat off to Orion who takes it without question, I tell him, “It was a close thing, but I’m perfectly safe up there, and there’s nothing to worry about it.”
