“There’s lots of security, and no one is going to be back there. I’ll be right back,” I tell him.

Orion kisses my forehead. “Be quick, or we’ll come find you,” he promises.

“Aye, like the wind.” Roark agrees.

Nodding, I walk quickly towards the employee bathroom Bear told me was also near an exit. No one follows me, and I force myself to listen for footsteps. Instead, the chatter and music becomes muted as I walk. Fuck, I’m going to actually have to pee if I have to wait. Forcing myself not to look behind as I hear a scrape of a shoe, I keep walking.

Going all in, I reach out for the door to the restroom to enter when I feel the sting of someone pulling my hair. “What?!” I gasp, my head jerking back before I’m thrown into the wall behind me.

I hit it hard, and I crumble to the ground. Blinking, I try to protect my stomach as I force myself to stand.

“Your hair is even worse than before,” Xav complains before I can see him.

While my ears ring a little, my eyesight clears quickly.

“It’s my fucking hair,” I sass him.

“I hate it. I see you got knocked up too. I wonder how you feel about having your rapist’s baby,” he tells me, not believing my words earlier to the crowd. Xav pulls me to him, yanking on my hair again to force me to look at him. “You’ve been a thorn in my goddamn spine, Miss Lennon, and it’s time I correctly disposed of you.”

Stomping on his foot, I push him away, even though he has a grip on my hair.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’ll scream the place down first!” I yell, still playing a victim.

“Nah, no one can hear you, little whore. You think I wouldn’t have a plan in place? I’ll be gone before anyone knows I was here. I’ve always wondered if your pussy was as tight as your mother’s. I haven’t seen her in ages,” he muses. “Carrie is an opportunist whore too.”

Taking a deep breath, I shake my head, refusing to let him get to me. “My mother is finally dead, the way she should have been years ago,” I tell him.

There’s a spark of pain in his eyes, and then he surprises me by picking me up and throwing me into the damn wall. Asshole needs some new moves. My back and head slam into it, but only because I forced my body to turn as I flew through the air.

“I will kill this fight out of you, Miss Lennon. Once and for all,” Xav says patiently, grabbing my boot and beginning to pull me towards the exit.

My head throbs painfully as he drags me and I whimper. “I’m not going,” I mutter. My dress is still covering my knife, and I slowly pull it from my thigh sheath. “Xav! You son of a bitch, I’m not going!”

He stops, and I kick my foot at his hand, trying to pull away. “I will beat you to death if you don’t stop,” Xav roars, turning.

Begging for my aim to not be fucked, I throw the knife at him with all my might. Over the last month, Greg insisted on teaching me how to throw my knife. I have two in case I lose one to his body… or a wide throw.

Please don’t go wide.

Xav hisses, dropping my booted foot as he grabs his chest. The knife is too far away from his heart, but the first blood goes to me. Standing, I run at him, twisting the knife in his body.

“Fuck,” he growls, twisting my wrist so hard it almost breaks, so I kick his groin harder. When he bends, still holding my wrist, I blink the tears of pain away as I grab his hair and drive my knee into his face twice.

Letting go of my arm, he backhands me so hard, the force takes me to my hands and knees. “We’ll do this the hard way, then. I need a soldier,” Xav informs me, pulling me by my hair and I slide across the floor behind him. “I was willing to kill you and cut my losses, but now, I wonder if I should look at nurture versus nature.”

Realizing he wants my baby, I turn my body even as he drags me. Pulling my other knife, I slice his hand. There’s no way I’m letting him take me from the building now. Ignoring his screams, I pull one of my pins.

Xav looks at me and the exit, and I hide the pin in my hand. Surprisingly, while my wrist throbs, it’s still functional. Not wanting to risk it, I run at him, causing him to turn away. “Goddamn coward!” I scream, leaping onto his back and clamping both arms around the front of his neck.

Next time, I’m going to say yes to the garrote. Xav thrashes to dislodge my body. As he slams me against a door, my arm slackens just enough to shove the pin in his neck.

“You think that’ll do anything to me?” he croaks as I resume pressure on his neck.

Yes, I hope.

Xav grabs me and tosses me over his shoulders and I scream, losing my grip. Playing dirty, I hold onto his hair, pulling him down with me. Grappling, I stab him with another pin. Xav gets the upper hand and begins to choke me, grinning evilly.

“You don’t need to be breathing for me to use you as an incubator,” he says.
