She sighs. “Fucking Xav,” Lenny grumbles. “If I’m not puking my guts out later, I’d like to talk to Greg, please.”

I kiss her forehead. “As someone who has experienced this, depending on what he was giving you, that’s a possibility.”

Lennon whimpers as she rubs her head and I wince. I’m really hoping Miranda has something for her.

Speaking of her, she knocks on the door, walking inside with a bag. “Hey, Lennon, I’m Miranda. Agent Fox asked me to check in on you. I should have started an IV last night, but wanted to let you sleep, so that’s on me.”

Lennon flops onto her back, covering her eyes as Miranda turns up the lights on the dimmer switch so she can see. “It’s fine, it was nice to sleep the whole night,” she says softly. “My head just started to pound. It’s like the fucker was waiting for me to open my eyes.”

Miranda’s eyes widen slightly, surprised by Lenny’s words. My girl curses like a sailor, so she’s gonna have to get used to it.

“Is there anything I can do to help her while you get your IV set up?” I ask, eyes on Lenny.

She’s curled up into a ball, hiding from the light, and it definitely sounds like she’s been stabbed by a migraine.

“Pressure will help. Just rub up and down where her head meets her neck, that’s where migraines usually stem from,” Miranda says, speaking softly.

I press firmly along where she tells me to, rubbing up and down. Slowly, Lennon starts to relax, but she’s still making noises.

Biting my lip, I keep my eyes on her as Turner gets up, throwing on a shirt as well and walking out of the room with his phone. I don’t know who he’s calling, but Lennon did ask to speak to Greg.

I don’t talk, because the last thing you want to hear is someone asking if they can help. Either help or shut up.

Miranda keeps Lenny’s finger monitor on her, quietly rigging an IV and slipping the needle into her arm. Lennon barely acknowledges her, probably because it's barely a blip in her level of pain.

“I’m going to grab a trash can, just in case, but I may have caught it in time,” Miranda says with a small sigh.

She looks upset at herself, but Lennon really was comfortable, so we’re dealing with the consequences today.

“Lennon, I added medication to your IV to help counteract the withdrawal symptoms. It’s not FDA cleared, but the trials have been successful,” Miranda says, her eyes on Lennon. “Some of the medications Xav was giving you were meant to give you symptoms that mirror psychosis. The issue though, is now that you’re withdrawing, they may actually give you withdrawal-associated psychosis. This drug will help combat that. Any questions?”

“No,” Lennon moans softly. “Thank you, though.”

Miranda nods, pulling out a bottle of ibuprofen. “Here’s something for the headache,” she says, opening the bottle and shaking out two pills as quietly as possible.

Lennon sits up to take the medication and sip some water before laying back down.

“Roark, don’t stop what you’re doing until she tells you to. If she has the energy to be annoyed, then she’s feeling better,” the nurse says with a small, worried smile.

I nod my thanks and she leaves, turning the light out completely. I wrap myself around Lenny as she turns herself on her side. I never stop rubbing her head and she sighs.

“We are quite the pair,” Lennon whispers and I kiss her shoulder.

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be, beautiful girl. If you need to hurl, give me a shout,” I tease her.

We lay togetherfor hours in the dark, and Lennon does unfortunately toss her cookies. Thankfully, the trash can was close, and I have cat like skills.

I was good with all of that until she also started muttering about seeing things.

Biting my lip, I ask, “Baby girl, what do you see?”

Lennon whimpers. “Colly. Why won’t he stop hurting me?”

I shudder as her words flow over me. “You killed him, baby girl, he can never hurt you again. And if you want to burn the world down and kill everyone who’s ever hurt you, I won’t stand in your way,” I whisper in her ear. “You’re so much stronger than you know, little Valkyrie.”

Lennon sighs, her eyes closing. As her breath regulates and she falls asleep again for the first time in hours, I relax my arms just enough so as not to bother her.
