I had no desire to spend my morning arguing with him. I’d hardly gotten any sleep myself. Part of it was making sure everything was safe and secure around the resort before going to bed, but I also struggled to sleep once I got there.

Jason cleared his throat. “Can I ask you something?”

“Sure.”

“So yesterday, at the bar, during our little game, I noticed that you drank when the question came up about sleeping with a guest. I can’t recall you ever sleeping with a guest—you’ve always been adamant that you would never…” A smile teased at his lips He continued. “And then, when I asked if anyone had had sex that day, both you and Snow—”

I held up my hand to stop him right there. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to gossip about one of our guests.”

“Oh, sorry, I thought we were an open-minded bunch here. No one is going to judge you or her for doing anything, but if you’d prefer to keep it quiet...”

I knew that my answer, while not being spoken directly, was obvious.

“I’m just a little bit jealous, that’s all. As I imagine the rest of us are.” He looked around the room. “Except Bash of course, he got lucky too.”

Sean and I shared a look. He was grinning and trying to hide it as Jason’s gaze narrowed in on him.

“You too? Man...”

Gage cut in. “Can we please get this meeting back on track? This is incredibly unprofessional.”

“I agree,” Anthony said.

Doc nodded in concurrence.

“Yes, let’s get back to the meeting. What happened last night was our fault and we need to figure out a way to prevent it from happening again. I never thought the bracelets could be stolen so easily.”

“We need to make sure they’re tighter on the wrist, for one,” Sean said. “But I’m also looking into a new company. They offer a model that can sense when the bracelet is not on a wrist or if it slides off, and it deactivates itself.”

That sounded like a lot of work for us if the bracelets slipped off regularly. I’d just have to make sure they were always attached properly regardless of what we decided to do. Safety, as we said often, was our number one priority so if it meant more work on our end for guests keeping their bracelets on, so be it. Whatever we had to do.

“I appreciate that you’re looking into our options, Sean.”

“Of course, we want to keep our guests safe.”

“Especially Snow,” Jason added.

He often said too much or the wrong thing at the wrong time, but this time, I knew that we were all in agreement. It seemed cliche and silly, but there was something about her that made all of us feel protective over her. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but my own feelings toward her made me a bit uncomfortable. I didn’t like it. I’d avoided dating intentionally—I wanted to focus on my work, not love. But it was hard with someone like her around.

“You okay, Reed?” Sean asked. He knew better than any of the others most likely.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” I said. “Anyway, the meeting is adjourned, I guess. Unless you guys have more you want to say.”

I walked toward the door, not waiting for anyone to protest. I left the meeting room and headed toward my office. My head was pounding, and I needed an aspirin and a nap. Though I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep. I struggled to sleep even in the best of times.

“Hey, man, one second,” Sean ran up beside me. “You’re not your usual, chipper self. You sure you’re okay?”

“Just tired,” I lied.

Sean studied my face as we walked toward my office.

“Nah, we’re all tired, but there’s something else going on. Is this about Snow?”

I didn’t answer.

“Ah, so it is about her. Are you scared because you’re feeling something for her?’

I stopped walking and turned on my heels to face my friend. “Since when are you the one with the psychology degree, Sean?”
