“So tell me, sexy, where are you from and what do you do when you’re not behind the bar?” a redheaded woman around thirty-five had been flirting with me for some time. She was attractive, she could have had any guy in the place, but for some reason, she had her eyes on me. Not that I was too surprised—I tend to be pretty popular with the ladies—but I had made sure to let her know that I had a personal rule against getting too close with the customers.

Obviously I had broken that rule with Snow, but Kelsey the redhead didn’t have to know that.

“Uh, well, I’m originally from California, but I live here now,” I said, handing her a drink. “And I think that guy over there is interested in you.”

I pointed to a dark haired gentleman in his forties. He was a repeat client and I was pretty sure he was a millionaire, or maybe even a billionaire. He stayed with us often, always by himself, but rarely ever went back to his room solo. Kelsey was exactly his type.

She turned to look at who I was gesturing to before turning back to me. “Not my type.”

I shrugged. “I thought you were the type of lady who liked luxury.”

“I am,” she said. Considering the way she was dressed and the Louis Vuitton on her arm, I figured as much.

“Jack over there has at least three luxury cars—a Ferrari, a Maserati and an Aston Martin. And those are just the ones I know about.”

Kelsey turned to look at him again before asking me, “How many cars do you have?”

“Just one, and it’s a pickup truck.” Not a lie. I could have afforded more vehicles but that just wasn’t my thing. Kelsey turned back toward Jack, grabbed her drink and said, “Thanks” as she headed his way.

One of the best parts of my job—playing Matchmaker for the singles who came to our resort.

I was scanning the crowd, waiting for Reed to get there so we could start the evening’s icebreaker, when I thought I caught sight of a familiar face, heading my way.

No way, I thought just as someone stepped in front of her. I convinced myself that it wasn’t Snow, that I was seeing things. It wasn’t unusual for me to look for her in a crowd, and sometimes I’d see a flash of shiny, black hair and think maybe it was her, only to have my heart broken when I discovered it wasn’t.

She was busy back at work, back to her everyday life.

I started to head toward the stage when I caught sight of her again. She was close enough to confirm that I was, indeed, looking at Snow. She smiled and I rushed forward, closing the distance between us in record time. She wrapped her arms around me tightly, and I lifted her up off the ground as she squealed.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“Are you happy to see me?”

“Of course I am,” I said, my face hurting from smiling so much. “Just surprised, that’s all.”

“Well… I got fired, so I needed to get away for a bit,” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “And before I knew what I was doing, I found myself here. Sean hooked me up with the most amazing cottage ever.”

“Good, I’m glad. I hope you can stay longer this time?”

“Who knows? I’m writing another article, trying to find a job in the meantime. But I’m here until you guys kick me out otherwise.”

“That’s not going to happen,” I said with a laugh.

I spotted Reed heading our way, and as he approached, I could tell he was equally shocked. I guess Sean knew, but no one else did. Reed and Snow hugged and he asked the same questions, getting the same answers.

“Wanna play Truth or Dare?” I asked her, grinning as I remembered the last time we played the game together. “We’re doing a group game right now.”

“Oh wow, that sounds like a lot of fun. Sure, I’ll play for a bit, though I may not stay too long, I’m pretty tired.”

“Let me grab you a drink. Anything in particular or would you like me to surprise you?” I asked.

“Uh, just a water, please.”

“Sure thing, one water coming right up,” I said with a wink. I headed back over to the bar and grabbed a bottle of water for her then went back toward the stage. Reed was already getting the show started.

“So the way this works is we each have a sign, one side says truth, the other says dare,” I explain as I hand her the sign. “Reed will ask the crowd truth or dare, sometimes just the women, sometimes just the men, and depending on the majority of the signs held up saying one or the other, he’ll either ask a question or propose a dare. You’re supposed to share the answer to the question with those nearest you, or the dare. You can obviously opt out of anything at any time.”

“Sounds good,” Snow said, holding her sign.
