We played a few rounds, and it got pretty silly as usual. Reed kept things mostly innocent, nothing that would make people uncomfortable. Snow was laughing and having a good time, and it was nice having her there.

“This is for everyone, truth or dare,” Reed asked.

Everyone held up their signs. Snow held up “Dare” but the majority of people held up “Truth.”

“Truth it is. Turn to the person nearest to you and tell them something about yourself that you’ve never told anyone else.”

Snow turned to me since we were next to each other. I was racking my brain for something, anything to tell her when she said, “I’ll go first, I guess. I’ve always wanted to have children one day. A lot of people assume I’m this career-oriented woman, and I guess I am, but secretly, I’ve always wanted a big family with lots of kids.”

Her smile wavered a bit as she waited for me to respond.

“Oh, that’s awesome,” I said, unsure of what else to say. “I guess I’ll feed off your secret then. Most of my life, I thought I never wanted kids, but the last few years I’ve really been thinking about and wondering if it might be nice to have a mini me running around.”

Her smile brightened once more, as if I’d said something that made her very happy. She hugged me and brought her lips to mine, kissing me before I had a chance to say much else.

“I have no idea what that was about, but thank you,” I said.

“No, thank you, Jason. Tonight was exactly what I needed,” she said, as she handed me her sign. “I’m going to head back to my cottage now though. Like I said, I’m pretty tired.”

“I could join you if you’d like the company.”

She kissed my cheek gently. “As much as I’d love that, I really do need to sleep. But I’ll be here for a while this time, so hopefully we'll have plenty of moments to spend together.”

We said our goodbyes and she headed for the door. I forgot to continue to play along with the game, I was too busy watching her walk away, my lips still tingling from the kiss.

Istared at the pregnancy test in my hand. Before I left town, Rosie had me take one and we found out the news together. I wrapped it up and brought it with me, though I still had no idea why. I just kept staring at it.

I was pregnant.

What I had told Jason earlier was true. I had always wanted children, just not like this. I had hoped to one day marry the man of my dreams and start a family together, but now, I was going to have to tell the guys that I was pregnant, and I had no idea which of the seven of them was the father.

I called Rosie who answered on the first ring.

“So, um, do you mind watching Petey for a bit?” knowing the answer before I even asked. I had originally asked her to watch him for a day or two, but I had a feeling I would be staying a bit longer than just a couple of days. I had previously told her I was just going to drive to the coast to get away, I’d honestly had no idea where I was headed when I left that afternoon.

“Of course, are you at the resort?”

“Yes, but how did you know?”

“I just had a feeling. Besides, after the positive result, I thought you might want to go out there and talk to them. Have you told them yet?”

“Not yet. I’ve only seen a couple of the guys so far. How am I going to break the news to all seven that one of them is the father of my child? Jesus, Rosie, what kind of mess did I get myself into?”

“It’s going to be okay, Snow. If anything, you and I will raise this baby together somehow.”

I smiled. I loved my bestie and I knew I could always count on her. Except now we were both out of work.

“I need to tell them, and soon. Otherwise it feels like I’m lying to them.”

“I agree, you need to tell them at some point,” Rosie said.

“I just have no idea how they’ll react. I mean, I know they’re awesome guys, but how well do I really know them? I have no idea if any of them want to be fathers or not. Well, except Jason, I found out he’s open to the idea at least.”

“Well… we can hope that the baby is Jason’s then, right?”
