“I was about to ask you the same thing,” I said. “We’re looking for Snow.”

The woman’s eyes widened. “Oh are you guys from The Gilded Peak? Holy crap, she wasn’t lying about how hot you are.”

So she knew Snow, that was a good sign. At least we were in the right place.

She continued. “Truthfully, I’m getting a little worried about her. She left a couple hours ago to meet with Hilda, but she’s taking a lot longer than I expected, and when I went by the office, it was dark and she’s not responding to my calls or texts.”

“She’s not responding to my calls either,” Doc said with a frown. “Do you mind if we come inside and try to sort this out?”

“Sure, come on in. I hope no one is allergic to cats?”

“Nah, Anthony isn’t with us,” I said with a chuckle, stepping inside the condo. It was cozy and homey, decorated beautifully in warmth and comfort. Not that I was surprised considering Snow always seemed to have good taste.

I spotted a gray cat, but he ran off before I could kneel down and pet him.

“He’s a little nervous around strangers, but he’ll warm up to you in no time and be your best friend,” the woman said.

I realized I had no idea who we were talking to, and she had no idea who we were either, yet she just let us in without a second thought. I figured it was a good time to introduce myself.

“I’m Jason,” I said.

“Ooh, I’ve heard all about you, the sexy bartender.” She shook my hand. “I’m Rosie. Snow’s BFF since childhood.”

“Nice to meet you, Rosie,” I said.

“Please tell me you have a sexy, single friend,” she said, batting her eyelashes up at me.

“Sorry, but I think all of my friends are into Snow,” I told her.

“Figures,” she said, playfully pouting, but quickly replacing it with a smile.

Doc introduced himself next, “I’m Christian, but everyone calls me—”

“Doc!” Rosie finished for him. “The doctor, yes, she’s told me about you too, and how you’re the spitting image of Chris Hemsworth. She wasn’t wrong there, damn…”

Gage didn’t look amused. His arms were crossed over his chest and he looked like he was ready to get down to business. When Rosie looked at him, a knowing look spread over her face. “And you must be the grumpy one, Gage.”

Gage responded with a nod.

“He doesn’t talk much,” I explained.

“Yeah, so I’ve been told… but let me just say, I can see why Snow was eager to get back to you guys.” She reached into her pocket and pulled out a cellphone. She stared at it with a frown.

“What is it?”

“I just got a message from Hilda. I had tried to reach out to her after I saw the office was dark, she’s just getting back to me...”

“What is it?” The hair on the back of my neck was standing up. The way her face blanched, and the way she looked up at us, I knew what she was about to say wasn’t going to be good.

“Hilda said she never set up a meeting with Snow. She never offered her the job back, and she has no idea what I’m talking about.”

“Fuck,” I said, reaching for my own phone. “This ain’t good.”

Gage finally spoke up. “Where was this meeting?”

As Rosie and him spoke, I called Reed. Whatever was happening, I knew it wasn’t good and I knew we might need backup. I also knew, without a doubt, that my friends would come. Thick or thin, they’d be there as soon as they could, and they would want to get on the road as soon as possible.

I had a feeling, shit was about to go down.
