We pulledup to the building with the headlights off. Gage had Rosie’s laptop open with the office surveillance system on the screen, checking all the rooms before finally seeing movement in one of them. It was dark, grainy, and pretty fuzzy, but we saw all that we needed to.

Snow was tied up, and Hunter was pacing the room.

My blood boiled as I saw him hovering over her.

“If he lays one finger on her...” I muttered under my breath.

A glance over at Gage told me that I wasn’t the only one itching to teach Hunter a lesson or two. His fists were balled up and ready, his jaw clenched tightly. He stared at the screen with a furrowed brow, his face turning red with anger the longer he stared.

“We need to figure this out fast,” Jason said, speaking the obvious. “We have to get in there before he hurts her and the baby.”

Wait, what did he just say?

Every single one of us turned and looked at Jason. Doc was standing near him and thumped him on the back, hard. “Well there you go being dopey again,” Doc said, shaking his head.

“Baby?” I stammered. “What is he talking about?”

“Snow is pregnant,” Doc said matter-of-factly. “I was the only one who knew, she was going to tell everyone else before she left the resort, but obviously that didn’t happen.”

I leaned back against the car, unable to think for a second.

A baby.

It could be any of ours.

It could be mine.

“Well, shit.”

“We don’t have time to deal with our emotions about fatherhood right now,” Doc said, gently pulling all of us back into the moment. “We can deal with that after we rescue her.”

He had a point. We needed to save her but it was hard to focus on the task at hand when my head was spinning. I needed to pull my head out of my ass and regroup, recenter myself. They needed me—I was the one with an architecture background.

“You know a lot about buildings, right?” Gage asked me.

“Yes. I might be able to find a way to gain access to the building if I had the plans or maybe by mapping it out based on what I can make out in the cameras, but that could take hours.” I looked over at Rosie. She was the only one who had been inside the building, she knew it better than any of us. “Do you think you could help me? Can we map out a rough sketch, showing all the entrance and exit points?”

“Yes, of course,” Rosie said. “I know that place like the back of my hand, we were always trying to find alternate routes to lose Hunter. I also still have my access card. Assuming Hunter didn’t disable it, it should work after hours, but it will send an alert to Hilda who may have questions about why we’re here.”

“That’s fine, we can explain later if needed. Maybe she’ll call the cops and they’ll actually do something,” I said.

“Snow is really lucky to have all of you guys,” Rosie said.

Getting into the building with Rosie’s card was easy. Getting up to the floor Hunter was on, while making sure he had no escape path, was another story entirely. We had to be quick and quiet. He couldn’t suspect anything.

With the help of Rosie, Sean was able to draft up a plan, and I prayed it would work.

Once inside the building, we went in different directions. Reed, Anthony and I went up the main stairwell, which led us to the entrance to the office. Jason and Bash were stationed at the elevators, they remained on the main floor, making sure Hunter didn’t try to escape that way. Doc and Sean headed up the back stairwell, which would take them through a service entrance that Rosie said was usually left unlocked. The plan would allow us to come at him from both sides.

We didn’t have much for weapons, but we didn’t need them. I’d be happy to beat the asshole to a pulp when I saw him and I knew the rest of the guys felt the same.

We reached the third floor, using Rosie’s card again to gain access. A beep sounded as it unlocked the door. Hunter was located on the opposite side of the floor, so Doc and Sean were likely to reach him first, but they were advised to stay out of sight until they could see us. From the video, Hunter’s door was closed, hopefully it stayed that way.
