“Oh yes, I think that would be a great idea, come to think of it.”

“Bash, do you mind taking Hunter back to the group? They should be finishing up,” I said.

Bash nodded. “Come on,” he said rather gruffly.

Hunter looked at Snow, then at Bash, and he started to argue when Bash repeated himself.

“Come on. You don’t want to miss the rest of the tour.”

Hunter relented and followed Bash away from us, leaving me with Snow.

“Is he causing you problems?” I asked.

“Not really, he’s just a little intense.” She laughed it off, but it didn’t feel genuine.

“Was it really a coincidence that the two of you booked the same resort, for the same dates?” I asked.

She shrugged. “It has to be, I never told him about my plans. He knew what days I wanted to take off because he’s in HR, but that’s it. I never said where I was going.”

It still felt fishy to me. “Alright, well, if he gives you any problems–”

“I’m sure it’ll be fine. He’s harmless,” she said. “But thank you, I appreciate the resort looking out for me.”

“Of course, we want all of our guests to feel safe and comfortable,” he said. “We take our guest’s safety very seriously.”

She was so beautiful, so innocent-looking and sweet, I could see why someone like Hunter would have a crush on her. Though the way he looked at her didn’t sit well with me.

“Let’s get you checked into your cottage. Sean is going to help you with that, but I might tag along anyway.”

“Ipersonally picked out every aspect of the rooms, especially the beds. I tested several different models in my own home before choosing the ones we use here in the resort, because I believe a good night’s rest is of the utmost importance to enjoying your vacation.”

Doc stepped up with a latecomer—the mysterious journalist that I’d already heard about from Reed. Reed had told me she was beautiful, but that was an understatement. He said her name was Snow and I couldn’t help but think of Snow White when I looked at her.

“What if I like a really firm bed?” someone piped up, pulling my attention back to the group.

“Well, you’re in luck, because our beds have adjustable firmness controls. We’ve never had any complaints, but if you find the bed unsuitable, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally. I take sleep very seriously, though I know that beds are used for more than just sleeping around here, and don’t worry, they’ve been thoroughly evaluated for that as well.”

People chuckled as usual, and Snow’s cheeks flushed a bit. Reed had told me she seemed a little unfamiliar with the idea of a place like ours.

“Each of you received a bracelet when you checked in with Reed earlier. I want to make sure you understand how they work. That bracelet is your key. Once inside, you can program who can have access to your cottage on the control panel near the door. Your bracelets will also allow you to check out books at the library or make purchases around the resort. And if you bought any meal or drink plans, that’s been added to the bracelet as well.

“Oh, and before you leave, let me tell you about the club. They host nightly icebreakers and games, so check that out. Jason works over there most nights, and he will take care of you.”

I tried to think about anything else they might need to know. I could tell they were getting impatient to get to their cottages.

“If there aren’t any questions, you are free to go. You should have gotten your cottage number and resort map in the welcome package, but please let us know if you need help locating your place.”

The group dispersed, but Snow held back along with Doc and another man I didn’t recognize. She was talking to Doc but appeared to be attempting to edge the other man out as I approached.Reed had mentioned a male guest named Hunter that gave him an uneasy feeling, especially regarding Snow. He said we would need to keep an eye on him. I had every reason to believe the other man in the group was Hunter, especially with the way Snow was acting around him.

“Hey, so you two arrived late, but if you have any questions, I’m here for you,” I said.“My name is Sean.”

“Thank you,” Snow replied. “I’m Snow. And I must say all that talking about the beds has made me look forward to climbing into mine tonight.”

“Oh, I can guarantee you’re going to sleep well tonight, beautiful.” I let the term of endearment slip.
