I let the rest of the group move along and walked over to introduce myself, reaching my hand out to the woman first.

“Hi, I’m Doctor Christian Brantford,” I said. “But everyone just calls me Doc.”

“Nice to meet you, Doc,” she said with a smile. “I’m Snow.”

I cocked an eyebrow. “Is that short for anything or did your mom just really like winter?”

“She liked winter a lot, yes,” Snow said with a laugh. “It’s actually my middle name, but I prefer it.”

“I can respect that,” I said.“And you are?” I asked the man, who grasped my hand distractedly.

“Hunter,” he answered.

“Are you two together?” I asked.

Snow let out a strained laugh and a firm “no”just as Hunter replied, “not really” at the same time.

Snow looked at him strangely.

“But you two know each other, I take it?”

“We work together,”she replied.

“And was it planned that you two would be here together?” I already knew the answer to that by Snow’s uncomfortable responses, but I wanted to hear what Hunter had to say.

“No, just coincidence,” Hunter replied curtly.

“Alright, well, I hope you two have a good time,” I said.

Bash was still standing next to Snow. Almost protectively.

“I can take it from here, Bash,” I said.

“It’s fine, I have nowhere I need to be,” he replied, never once taking his gaze off Hunter. I wanted to ask him what that was about, but not in front of the guests.

“Ok, well please do not hesitate to stop by and ask us questions. We sell over-the-counter products including medicine, skincare, hygiene products, anything you might have left at home. We also have some free personal amenities for our guests, as a courtesy, and those are listed in the booklet in your room. Remember I am a doctor and can treat minor illnesses. We also have a pharmacy nearby if you need anything we don’t have. So don’t worry about a thing, you’re in good hands here.”

I smiled as I finished up with the basics. Most of what they missed was also in the booklet in their rooms, but as long as they knew we were here and could help them in case of an emergency, my part was over.

“Oh, and we also offer some spa services, though I am not directly involved with that, I just oversee the staff.”

“Thanks, Doc,” Snow said.

“Do you have any questions before you move along?” I asked.

“I think I’m good for now, but do you mind if I stop by if I do end up having any other questions? I’m here to write an article about the resort, and I may think of some questions later on.”

“Oh, you’re the journalist,” I said with a smile.

She looked over at Hunter first, then over at Bash as she pondered what she was going to say next. “Yes, I am. I’m a journalist writing about the resort and hoping to get it picked up by a major publication.”

Her gaze shifted back to Hunter who hadn’t said a word since our introductions. He also didn’t pay a bit of attention to anything I had said, his eyes locked on Snow in a way that reminded me of a predator watching his prey. I hardly knew this woman or the dynamics between the two, but I didn’t like it.

She shuddered under the weight of his gaze and it immediately set me on edge.

“Well then, do you mind if I give you a personal, one-on-one tour of our facilities? I want to be sure you have a thorough understanding of how we work here,” I said. I looked over at Hunter, trying to signal that I was trying to lose the stalker.

She picked up on it right away.
