“Well, was it good?”

“The best. The sex isn’t the issue. He’s my boss and extremely overwhelming.”

“Wait… I thought you were giving that back?” She points to the sparkling bracelet wrapped around my wrist. A bracelet I’ve been attempting to remove ever since I left Alistair’s apartment this morning.

“I did, and then I woke up with it on. Can you help? I can’t get it to open.” I hold out my arm to her.

“It is really nice,” she says, fiddling with the clasp.

“Do you know what he said this represents? That I’m his. That heownsme. I don’t want to be his anything other than his employee.”

“Are you sure about that?” Daisy asks.

“No, just get it off,” I plead with her.

“I can’t. It won’t budge.” She drops my wrist.

“Break it. Cut it off me then!” I scream, throwing my arms up in frustration.

“No way. You are not cutting a two hundred thousand dollar bracelet off your wrist.”

“What? No.” I shake my head, staring down at the item in question while hating it even more.

“It’s Cartier,” Daisy says.

“I don’t care. I don’t want it.” I fold my arms over my chest and sulk.

I storminto the office building. I’ve had all weekend to calm down, my frustration only increasing as the hours passed with this damned thing still on my wrist. The messages from Alistair on Saturday morning didn’t help either. I ignored them all. No matter how tempted I was to take him up on his offer to visit him Saturday night. Instead, I busied myself with work. I wanted to make sure I’m on top of all of his cases to the best of my ability.

I need him to see me as more than just a good lay. Iammore than that. This is why it’s not a good idea to sleep with your boss. I’m a woman trying to be taken serious in a man’s world. What I’ve done will not help my career in any way.

I also had to make an embarrassing stop at the pharmacy for the morning after pill. After getting the look of disapproval from the old lady behind the counter, I downed that little sucker like it was a lifesaving antidote. In a lot of ways, I guess it was.

The elevator takes it’s sweet-ass time to ride to the top this morning. As soon as the doors open, I stomp towards Alistair’s office. Smiling at his secretary, who I’d normally stop to see and check in with. Not today. Today, I walk right up to his office and open the door.

It’s almost eight. I know he’s in.

Alistair looks up from his computer in shock. I slam the door closed, continue stomping to his desk, and throw my bag down on one side. “Undo it.” I hold my arm out towards him.

Alistair looks from the bracelet up to my eyes. “No,” he says.

“What do you meanno? Take it off. I told you I don’t want it,” I hiss at him.

“Too bad. I like it on you. It suits you.” He smirks, his fingers rubbing my wrist under the bracelet.

I snatch my arm away. “No, it doesn’t. I need it off,” I plead with him.

“Too bad. I said no.”

“You said no. You know what? I’ll just cut the bloody thing off,” I tell him.

“And I’ll buy another one to replace it,” he says confidently.

“You can’t be serious.”

“Try me, little girl.” His voice deepens with an unsaid promise of punishment… if I keep pushing. The thing is… I liked his version of punishment. Way too much.
