“From what?”

“A life of unhappiness. A life you never really wanted to begin with. I. Saved. You.”

“You want sex as a repayment? It’s not going to happen.”

“It will happen, Delaney. I want your stomach full of my baby, and that’s how it will be. Don’t force my hand on this matter because, as you can see, I get what I want.”

Chapter 10

The reception is boring. Everyone’s on pins and needles around me except for the few I kept on guard for me. Hell, even Rigo looks unsure of me right now.

Delaney dances with her father as I mingle and talk to a few people. They all act like this reception is fine, just as I wanted it.

“I didn’t think you had it in you,” Margetti says.

“What made you doubt me?” I ask, looking him in the eyes.

“I didn’t really doubt you, per se. I just didn’t think you’d kill your own brother.”

“It wasn’t a hasty decision. It’s one I thought about for a while.”

“And now?”

“And now I have some control,” I tell him. “I have leverage.”

“Smart man. Very smart man, Luka.” I nod my head as he slaps a hand on my shoulder. My father stands in the corner, looking angrily at me. I killed his oldest son, and he has every right to be angry with me. But I did so for a reason.

“How is he going to take to all this?” Margetti asks me as he nods toward my father.

“I don’t know yet. So far, we aren’t speaking. I assume it’s going to take some time to get over the loss of his accountant,” I tell him. He chuckles under his breath before looking back over at me.

“You’re ruthless.”

“No. I’m smart. There’s a difference.”

“Smart, you are. I didn’t see this coming, not from you, Luka. You’ve always been a little on the quiet side,” he notes.

“Quiet isn’t always good, Margetti.” It’s the quiet ones that know the most. It’s them who see the most and know what’s happening. They don’t let it show because they know how to play their cards right.

“I see that now, Luka. What are your plans now?”

“I have big plans now. They’re still in the works, but I’m sure we’ll see more of each other. I’d like to get in on this gambling thing you have going on.” His eyebrows shoot into his hairline as he looks at me, confused.

“What do you mean?”

“Just as I said. I’d like to get in on this. I think it would be beneficial to everyone involved.”

“Like legally?”

“There’s an old casino over on Ninth I’ve been keeping an eye on. It could work,” I tell him. He nods his head as he thinks that over.

“I like the sound of that,” he adds.

“As do I. We’ll discuss it more after my honeymoon.”

“Where are you going?”

“Italy, of course.” He nods his head once more before slapping a hand on my arm.
