We pull into the driveway, and I order the men with me to watch Delaney. I wasn’t about to leave her at home with an unknown threat out there. She grabs my hand before I try to get out and pulls me to her.

“It’s going to be fine,” I tell her reassuringly.

“You don’t know that,” she says softly.

“You’re safe, Delaney. They will shoot to kill.” She nods before I kiss her and climb out of the car. I walk up the steps, the same ones I’ve walked up millions of times before, but this time feels different. It doesn’t feel right, and that bothers me.

I don’t bother knocking, just walk in the front door and straight to his office. I get looks from a few of his men, which doesn’t bother me. I knew they’d be angry over the situation.

“You’re here,” he says as I walk into the room.

“Was the bomb not reason enough to show up?”

“Bomb? What are you talking about, Luka?” he asks.

“Let’s not play games, Father. I know you have someone on the inside working for me. I know you had a bomb set off at my house for attention. You wanted it, and now you got it.”

“I don’t know anything about a bomb, Luka.”

“What is it you want?”

“What I want, I can’t have. You killed my son.”

“And you think it’s only fair to go after my wife?” Even as I say the words, something burns inside of me. Then hell breaks loose, and shots are fired. My father moves quickly, coming around the desk as the door explodes. Men come rushing in, tackling me to the ground. It all happens so quickly I can barely see straight. I’m kicked, punched, and hit harder than ever. Pain shoots through my body when I hear her screams.

“Delaney!” I roar as I try to shove to my feet, but it’s no use. There are far too many men on me now. Men holding me down while others assault me.

“Luka!” she cries, but there’s nothing I can do. I can’t get to her. I’m finally dragged to my feet, and that’s when I see my father smirking at me while Costa stands next to him.

“You think I’d let you get away with stealing from me?”

“What did I steal?” I ask.

“My money, Luka! And I want it back!” He yells as he looks at me intently.

“I stole nothing,” I tell him as blood trickles down my lip. “I did make a promise to your daughter not to kill you, but that’s not looking like one I can keep after this,” I reply? noting the situation.

“Kill me? Isn’t that a funny thing considering you’re the one being held right now?”

“You’ll die. The both of you will die.” I smirk as my father coughs into his hand, blood splattering as he does. He has to know something is up. He can’t be that stupid. “Already feeling the effects are you, Father?” I ask him, keeping my smile in place.

“What did you do? What did you do, Luka?” he screams at me. I just smile.

“Nothing you didn’t deserve.”

“What the hell is going on?” Costa asks, looking between the two of us.

“What did you do?” My father asks once more. He steps toward me, slamming his fist into my face. My head snaps to the side as more blood trickles down my mouth.

“I did what had to be done,” I tell him. He coughs again before he slowly gasps for air. This is it. This is the moment, and I’m here for it. I never thought I would be around to watch the life leave his eyes, but as he looks up at me, gasping for air, I know it’s his time. The poison is doing its job, slowly killing him from the inside out. He drops to his knees, still gasping for air as Costa looks between us. I chuckle and shake my head.

“You’re losing, Father. Just like we always knew you would.”

“Shut up, Luka!” Costa screams at me. I smile. I don’t give a shit what he has to say at this point. I’m going to kill them all. I’m going to take his ass out for touching Delaney.

We watch as my father chokes on his own blood on the floor until he finally stops moving. His lifeless body lies in a puddle of blood in front of me, and I don’t feel a damn thing.

“You did this?” Costa asks as he comes to stand in front of me.
