“Yes. You like that, don’t you? You like it when I talk to you like that?” I ask her. My cock is raging in my slacks, and there’s nothing I can do to alleviate it right now, and I don’t seem to care. I only want her pleasure.

“Yes. I like it,” Delaney whispers as she catches her breath.

“Good girl. Go clean up, and I’ll be home soon,” I tell her.

“Okay. Bye.” She hangs up the phone, and I groan, adjusting my cock before I stand. Before I walk outside, I toss money on the table and climb into the car.

“To the old casino,” I tell the driver. He nods and heads off toward the old casino, which isn’t far from here.

Once we arrive, I climb out and walk over to the man who owns it now.

“Luka. Good to see you again,” he says, extending his hand.

“You too, Louis. You ready to do this?” I ask him. I’m signing the papers today. I’m buying the casino so we can have a legitimate business.

“I’m ready to see this place go to good use. It was one hell of a casino back in my day,” he tells me.

“I’m sure it was. I can remember the lights when I was younger,” I confess. Louis is older, probably in his eighties.

“It was a good thing back then. Too bad I never had a family to pass it along to. Do you have children, Luka?”

“I have one on the way,” I tell him. His eyes light up as he looks at me and smiles.

“That’s good. Very good. Family is important,” he reminds me of what I already know.

We sign the papers, and I hand over a check before shots sound around us. I lunge for Louis, throwing my body over his as I pull my gun and return fire.

Once I know Louis is down, I stand up and turn to face the area where the shots were coming from. I see two men approaching me quickly, and I fire at them. My driver is out of the car, firing too, but not before a bullet hits my shoulder. I scream as pain rips through my body, and I’m knocked back a step. My driver continues to fire, hitting both of the assholes who shot at me before I turn to see if Louis is okay.

“You okay?” I ask him as he climbs off the ground.

“Yes. Are you?”

“I’ll be fine,” I reassure him, even as the pain seeps into my pores. I help Louis back to his car and watch him leave before I head back to my car.

“Thanks,” I tell Dave, my driver and bodyguard.

“You’re hit.”

“I don’t think it went through either,” I tell him as pain radiates through my shoulder.

“Let’s get you back. I’ll call the doctor in,” he says. I nod and climb back into the car, keeping pressure on the area.

The ride back doesn’t take long, and as soon as we get there, the doctor pulls in behind us. I step out of the car and head for the door when Delaney comes storming out.

“You told me you were safe!” She yells as she looks at the blood on my clothes.

“Calm down,” I tell her.

“You’ve been shot, Luka. I can’t calm down.” I wrap my bloodied hand around the back of her neck, pulling her closer to me.

“I’m okay, Delaney. Calm down.” I don’t want her getting worked up while she’s pregnant. She nods, and we all go inside before the doctor leads me down the basement stairs to a sterile room we have set up for cases like this.

Once we’re inside, he cuts my shirt to get access to the wound.

“You want a drink?” he asks. I nod my head. One of my guys leaves the room and returns with vodka that he passes to me. I take a long pull while the doc gets to work. I scream in pain as he digs around to get the bullet out. It’s the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt and makes me think. Is this what Romano felt? No, he died instantly. He didn’t feel a goddamn thing, and now I regret how I killed him. I should have made him suffer for trying to take what’s mine.

Time seems to tick past slowly as he digs into my shoulder. At some point, I think I pass out and wake up again. When I come to, he’s done.
