When the door finally opened and Margetti walked in, I breathed a sigh of relief.

“Think I was dead?” he laughs.

“No. I knew you weren’t.”

“That’s all taken care of then,” he reports.

“It is. Now we move on.”

“Now we divide up his empire,” he says. I nod my head.

“That’s exactly what we do. Delaney still has access to some things being his daughter. She will sign those over, and the rest I will handle. It’ll take a little time to get everything in order, but then we’ll move to the casino.”

“You have this all planned out, don’t you?”

“As much as I can. I don’t like leaving one stone unturned. I want everything to work smoothly, and now that Costa is dead, I think it will.”

“What about Delaney? Isn’t she going to be upset you had her father killed?”

“I didn’t pull the trigger. I gave her my word I wouldn’t, and I didn’t.”

“You think that’s going to be enough?”

“It has to be. That’s the best I can do.”

“I like this side of you, Luka.”

“Get used to seeing it,” I tell him. He nods, and we shake hands before we both head back out. I want to get home to Delaney. I want her to know this is over, and she doesn’t have to look over her shoulder any longer.

I walk back to my car and climb in as Rigo watches me.

“Everything good?” he asks.

“It’s perfect. Everything went down according to the plan.”

“Back home?”

“Yes. Back home.”

He puts the car into drive and pulls away from the warehouse. I watch out the window as we drive. The trees flashing past, the people, the clouds. It’s like everything has fallen into place. Everything is the way it’s supposed to be.

And maybe this is it. Maybe this is the way things were supposed to be. I was always meant to have Delaney in my life. She was always a part of my life, and I have her forever. She’s mine. And no one can take her away from me now.

I sit back in my seat, and something settles in my chest. I couldn’t have planned this out any better.

We pull up to the house, and I climb out of the car and walk up the front steps when she comes rushing out. She notes the blood on my face before I shake my head, letting her know it isn’t mine. Then she throws herself into my arms and holds me as tightly as she can.

“I love you,Bellissima,” I whisper in her ear. She pulls back, tears in her eyes, before she kisses me roughly.

“I need to clean up,” I tell her. She nods, wraps her hand around mine, and leads me into the house.

Epilogue

“Idon’t know how you do it. Maybe he just doesn’t like me,” Delaney sighs as I hold our son in my arms.

“He loves his mama,” I remind her. “And so do I.”

“He never stops crying like that when I hold him,” she whines. There’s a strong bond already between my son and me. Not one I thought I would have with him. I didn’t want us to be like my father and me. I wanted more, and he gives me that.
