“We do what we can. Besides, no one minds you bein’ around, Raven. Stay as long as you like.”

“I just feel useless here. I haven’t done anything but sit on my ass.” Cheryl giggles and grabs my hand in hers.

“There’s plenty to do if you want to. The bar, the kitchen. You can do what you want,” she tells me.

“She’s right. If you wanna work, go to the bar.”

“Thank you guys,” I tell them, thankful to have them backing me right now. I need their strength.

“No worries, darlin’. Do what you want around here. No one is gonna tell you no.” Rage walks off, and I look up to see Cross and Cara walk back in. My heart leaps in my chest when I see him. He glances over, our eyes locking as she leads him across the room. I can’t stop looking at him. I don’t want to. He has this aura about him that I want. I want to be in his presence.

His eyes stay on mine until he has to look away. Then he follows Cara through the room.

“I think there’s more to you two,” Cheryl observes.

“There’s not.”

“I know you’ve been together,” she says.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper before looking down. I should be ashamed for getting in the middle of their relationship. I should feel bad, and to a point, I do. She doesn’t deserve that. Not that I know of, anyway.

“It’s not just you. Cross makes his own decisions,” she says.

“I just feel a connection to him,” I confess. Cheryl nods her head.

“I know how that can be. You’re all adults, and Cross will make his own choices.”

“It’s cheating,” I tell her.

“Which again is his own choice,” she tells me.

“Is it bad that I don’t feel as bad as I should?” Cheryl shakes her head.

“You have feelings too. We all do,” she says, making me feel slightly better. Not that I felt that bad to begin with. I turn my head and find him once again. Cara has her hand on his chest as she smiles up at him. Are they truly happy?

Chapter Three

Cross

“Everything has been quiet,” Demon declares as we sit around the table with beers in our hands.

“It was quiet last time, too,” Trek reminds us. That’s true. It was.

Demon chuckles before sitting forward and resting his elbows on the table.

“I know, and we handled that issue. But seriously. Things are quiet. Maybe too quiet. I don’t know. I have guys lookin’ into this around here but so far, so good.”

“That’s a good thing. Maybe those assholes are learnin’ they can’t do that shit around here,” Badger adds.

“I figure we deserve a break since shit is so good right now.”

“Beach house?” I ask. He nods his head before glancing around the room.

“Everyone deserves a break. We deserve the chance to kick back and relax. I say we hit the beach house for a while and do just that. Raven is still here, and she’s invited. She could use it more than any of us,” he says. I nod my head in agreement. Raven does deserve a break from reality. If anyone deserves it, it’s her.

“I say let’s do it,” Griz declares.

“Then it’s settled. We hit the beach house. I’m caught up on shit here, so we can leave soon,” Demon tells us. Drake nods his head, agreeing.
