He climbs under the blanket and puts his arm out. When I lay down on his shoulder, the soft blanket on top of me, his hand trails down my back. He runs his fingers through my hair, and I can’t imagine anything being more relaxing.

If there’s a heaven, it’s Em’s hands gently caressing me to sleep. But as wonderful as his touch is, they can’t touch my dreams. I found the man I don’t know if I can walk away from. A man that puts book boyfriends and real boyfriends to shame.

All I have to do to find my happily ever after is to be patient. Weather the storm. I just hope I’m strong enough this time around.

Chapter 35

Emery

“My bags are in my office,” Madison says as she closes the door behind her. I’ve known this woman for two weeks, and she’s moving in with me. The world would say I was insane. My friends would agree.

My heart can’t imagine anything else.

“You’ll still have to go to work at a different time than me,” I say as I lean back in my chair.

She nods. No one can know, and Madison understands. Luckily, no one comes to my house. Even Dante and Noah don’t visit me at home. This is a temporary thing until Aspire can stand without Emery Brooks there to win the trust of the world.

“You’re sure about this?” she asks, and I nod. I’ve never been surer about anything in my life.

“Are you sure you want me to play with you in the office?”

Madison swallows hard and nods. “Em, everything we do together terrifies me, but that’s what makes it so different. It’s what makes it mean something more.”

“Okay.” I take a deep breath and try to clear the lust I feel for her. It’s hard to think about the fact that I still have a job to do. “Then you’ll have to stay terrified for a while longer. I have a new project for you.”

It’s like the air is sucked out of her, but she takes it in stride. Only a few breaths later, she’s sitting in the chair across from me. “What’s the product? And aren’t I going to be involved in the actual campaign delivery of Bronze Goddess? That’s half the battle with ChitChat.”

“You’ll do both. This project is a longer campaign setup, so I think you’ll be fine working on both at the same time.” I reach into my desk and pull out the bottle of bathroom cleaner. “Organo-cleanz. It’s one of the new generation of cleaners that you can basically drink. According to their documentation, it’s as good at cleaning as any of the traditional brands, but your baby can roll around in it with absolutely no ill-effects.”

Madison laughs, and I’m a little confused. “What’s so funny?” I ask.

“Why couldn’t this have been my first product? This stuff will sell itself. I don’t even need a team. I can write out the ads for it by the end of the day.”

“Bronze Goddess already has a solid market percentage. They’re already a huge name in the Pacific Northwest and had a very sizable marketing budget. That’s how we could afford to shoot in Barcelona with fifty models. It was all just an expansion. Organo-cleanz has a shoestring budget and has no market footprint. You’re going to be introducing the world to them.”

Madison just leans back and grins at me. “I had no idea how much you needed me. Tell me how much I can spend, get me in touch with a camera crew that’s ready for a road trip, and accept that I’m going to be gone three days out of the week until they’re ready to start releasing. I don’t need a team for this. It’s a joke.”

How’s that even possible? And she’s so confident. “You have a budget of a hundred thousand dollars for the whole thing.”

Madison’s eyes open wide. “I need ten, and that’s just for the travel expenses. Get about a thousand bottles of this stuff and have someone actually test it on anything they can get a hold of. I need to know exactly what it cleans and how well. Find some condemned building filled with roaches and just try to clean every inch of it. If it’s as good as you say it is, Organo-cleanz will be your best customer.”

I have a hard time believing it, but she was terrified of the Bronze Goddess campaign. There’s none of the fear this time around. “What’s so different about this product?” I ask.

“It’s exactly what people actually want. Even if it’s expensive, people are tired of buying cleaners that cause cancer and will kill their kids. I mean, the latest trend with cleaning is using vinegar on freaking everything, so if there’s something out there that’s less harsh than vinegar and cleans like traditional cleaners, that’s an instant win.

“I’ll just talk to all the big CleanChat reviewers, get them to trial it with me and the crew there, and they’ll share the shit out of it. Especially if they’re given the first real round of it. They’ll all go viral and start using it and spreading the wordfor us.”

It sounds genius. And too cheap. “Don’t tell anyone what you’re doing,” I say. “It’s too easy. Anybody could do that.”

She grins and nods. “Anyone could do it. But the difference is that it’s not what most advertising companies would do. They’d do infomercials on ChitChat, and everybody will ignore them because they aren’t trustworthy. But get an influencer to use it? Everyone will watch it. Charge them as much as possible and promise them the world. Hell, do the one thing that no advertiser would do. Write the promises into the contract because this is a slam dunk.”

No one promises anything with advertising. We take their money and the only assurance they have is that if they don’t get results, they’ll go elsewhere. What Madison is suggesting is madness.

“Do it, Emery. Write something simple into their contract. Make sure they can sell a million bottles within the next six months. They’ll sell ten million at least. As long as it’s as good as they say it is. If not, we might as well not even take the contract if they want it sold on ChitChat.”

I frown. I think she was right about the Bronze Goddess stuff, but I can’t be sure. The stuff she’s suggesting with Organo-cleanz is pure madness, but if she can manage that, then we’ll have them as our flagship case study. We can say that we can do the impossible and promise results.

“You’re positive?” I ask again.
