Brandon sees me, and suddenly his group turns toward me. Then other groups do. My first thought is that someone’s found out about Em and me. But then Brandon gives me a grin and gets up from his seat next to his new project group.

“Have you checked your email?” he asks.

I shake my head. God, what email? “No. I just got here. What’s up?”

His grin goes from ear to ear, and he says, “Just read the email. And enjoy your bonus.”

My bonus? I’ve only been on one project, and that should still be in post-production. What the hell is Brandon talking about?

I give him a nod and go to my office to check the email in private. Whatever it is, I feel like I need to keep my reaction private. Anything that’s got the entire office in this big of a stir has to be a big deal.

As soon as my email is up, I scroll through the normal project updates. Then I see one from Noah Adams, the co-owner of Aspire in charge of client relations.

Aspire’s first ChitChat campaign has over a hundred thousand views on its first day. We’ve cracked the code. Prepare for more information on how to integrate it.

Fuck. It’s not even supposed to be live, yet. A hundred thousand views isn’t very many, but depending on how many videos they released, it could be significant. Plus, the real success never happens on day one. It’s all about building the momentum. Once that boulder starts rolling, it only moves faster.

Then I see the email from Emery addressed to me.

Bronze Goddesshas released two videos to see what they should expect from the rest, and they are extremely pleased with the results. Their previous attempts yielded less than ten percent of the views they’re receiving, and they would like to further expand this project based on how the rest of the videos do. Expect repeat projects in the future.

You’ll most likely be receiving a double bonus for holding such a valuable customer in a brand new field. Your outside of the box thinking is to be rewarded, and everyone in Aspire management would like to thank you for your excellent work.

I can’t believe the number next to the dollar sign below. It’s more than my entire yearly salary. I made more in two weeks than many people make in an entire year.

I close the computer and head straight to Emery’s office. This number is impossible. If this is normal, then I’m going to be a millionaire in a year or two.

As I walk inside his office, Emery’s already leaning back in his chair with a grin on his face. “I guess you saw the email?”

“Yes. I know the bonus structure is in my contract, but maybe I didn’t understand the kind of numbers it was talking about. Is this a normal amount?”

He puts his hands behind his head and gives me that grin that makes me smolder. “No. It is definitely not normal. In fact, I think your bonus is the largest anyone’s received in Aspire history.”

I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. I don’t know what that means. Why would I, an intern, get more than anyone else ever?

I close the door behind me and ask as seriously as I can even though I’m about ready to burst with excitement, “Is this because I’m sleeping with you?”

He chuckles and leans forward. “Would you like it if I were paying you? Would that turn you on?”

I don’t react to his statement. “I’m being serious, Em. I don’t want anything I don’t deserve.”

He sighs. “No, that bonus is not because you’re sleeping with me. Even if it would be hot. It’s because you did something that no one else has. You and your team set us up for greatness. We’re about to conquer a brand new market, and you did it all under budget. There were no expensive models. No expensive locations. The only real expense you had was a shit ton of plane tickets. You absolutely deserve the bonus you received, and you’ll probably get an even bigger one from Organo-cleanz if you deliver on what you’ve promised.”

It blows my mind that anyone could make as much as that bonus in the past two weeks. I know that it’s valuable to Aspire, butthisvaluable? I need to sit down.

“Emery, I’m just an intern. Most people wouldn’t even pay me the salary you’re giving me. I feel like maybe your feelings toward me are mixing with business.”

He just shakes his head. “No. Not one bit. I ran it by Noah and Dante both, and they suggested I pay you more. You’re an intern, but literally no one else in this office could have done that. We pay people for their quality, not their experience. Your skills are about to earn Aspire a stupid amount of money. I will not let another company try to poach you from us.”

I laugh at the idea of another company trying to steal me with my whole two weeks of experience. “There’s no way…”

“Every advertising company that can link you to that campaign is going to be willing to pay you more than your salary. I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a million dollar offer within the next six months. I know that at least a few people here will get offers for ChitChat campaigns they run, and that’s why I’m giving huge bonuses to everyone running those campaigns.”

“My whole team got bonuses like mine?”

Emery shrugs. “They’re less, but they’re still significantly larger than normal. But the thing to keep in mind is that they couldn’t reproduce what you’re doing, and their bonuses reflect that.”

It’s still so hard to believe, but I guess it makes sense. “Okay. I just want to make sure that business and pleasure aren’t getting mixed up. If I earned that money, then I won’t complain, but if it’s something else, then I don’t want any part of it.”
