I’d completely forgotten about him saying that. “Em, I’m exhausted. I don’t know if I’m up for wild and crazy tonight.”

His eyes have this strange look in them, not the hunger that I’m so familiar with. It’s something else. Something odd.

“Please?” he asks.

I’ve never seen him act like this. Not since he made those ChitChat videos. He’s begging me. This is very unlike him. “Okay. Surprise me.”

Suddenly, his smile brightens as he wraps the silk around my eyes. The edges of the scarf let in a little light, but I can’t make out anything other than the ground and roof above me.

Em takes my hand and leads me through the front door. I move slowly, worried I’ll bump into something, but Em does a good job of keeping me away from anything breakable.

I can’t help but laugh a little as I hobble around. This is a ridiculous thing to do.

I hear him open a door, and he positions me in front of it. As he unties the scarf, he whispers, “Surprise.”

The darkness falls away, and I stare at a room I’ve never seen before. Based on where it is, this used to be the formal dining room that I’d never seen used.

And now it’s a library.

Twelve-foot-tall bookshelves cover the walls. Half of them are covered with books, while the other half are empty, waiting for me to find books to fill them.

The table’s gone, and in its place is my over-sized chair. Next to it is a chaise lounge and a glass case with the ancient copy of Beauty and the Beast inside it. There’s a table with a camera stand on it, just like I’d set up at my dining room table in my apartment.

Em built me a library and set up a BookChat area.

I whirl around to thank him, and he’s not standing behind me. He’s on one knee. It takes me a moment to realize what is happening, but then he reaches into his tux pocket and pulls out a little velvet box.

“Madison Carter, you are the best thing in my life. You’re the reason I wake up with a smile on my face. You taught me to fly when I’d forgotten I’d ever wanted to learn. I spent a week thinking I’d lost you, and I can’t imagine ever feeling that way again.

“Will you make me the happiest man in the world by becoming my wife?”

My entire body is frozen as he opens the little box, and I see the glint of diamonds against yellow gold. “Yes,” I whisper. It’s automatic, but other than that singular word, I can’t speak. I can’t believe what’s happening.

How could he show me a surprise library and propose to me in a single thirty second time span without thinking my brain would short-circuit?

“Let me put the ring on,” he says as he takes my hand and slips the gold over my finger. Seeing it on me instead of the box is like something out of a dream. I fell in love with Em at first kiss. Somehow, I didn’t believe that he’d ever marry me. It was just too happily-ever-after to be possible.

But as I stare at the gold and diamonds, as Ifeelthem on my skin, I know that this is real. Em Brooks is my Prince Charming, my Beast, and he’s never letting me go.

Which is good because I can’t imagine my life without him ever again.

“I hope you like the ring,” he says as he stands up.

I finally look away from it, my eyes meeting Em’s gaze. “It’s a nice ring, but the man who gave it to me is far prettier.”

He grins at me, and I swear I can see a tear welling up in his eye. I wrap my arms around him, my nails digging into the tux jacket. “I love you, Peter Pan. More than anything in the world. I just hope that getting married won’t keep you from flying.”

His grin gets wider. “Wendy Darling, to be married will be an awfully big adventure."
