The storms may roll over his world, but he doesn’t have to stand alone against them anymore.

He leads me out ofourhouse to the waiting limo. When we sit down, he whispers, “You should give me your panties.”

I slap his arm again. “Not tonight, Mister. I’m nervous enough already, so if you’ve got plans on doing dirty things, you’d better think again.”

He laughs and wraps his arm around my shoulder. “Don’t be nervous. We’re going to Maya Hall’s latest movie, after all. It’s me that should be nervous since my date will probably care more about the movie than me. And I don’t even want to know how forgotten I’ll be if you meet up with Maya.”

I huff. There may be some perks to living with a billionaire celebrity. “Fine. I’ll try not to be nervous, but no funny business until after we get home.”

He grins. “I can accept that, but I have abigsurprise when we get home.”

A big surprise. “I bet you do. Just keep it in your pants until I’m free to scream, okay?”

Em chuckles, but it’s different, almost nervous. What could Em be nervous about?

We step out of the limo onto the sidewalk, and I’m assaulted by the flashing lights of a thousand cameras. I try to remind myself that I signed up for this. I knew that this was his natural habitat before I even knew who Em was.

He takes my arm in his and smiles down at me. “Just relax, Madison. You’ve been famous for a long time. You don’t have any problem telling the entire world about some new book, and this is the same thing.”

I glance at the reporters and celebrities. “I disagree.”

He chuckles and pulls me forward. “It just seems like it is. All you have to do is chat with them.”

A voice says from behind us, “I didn’t think you’d ever get your book dragon out to an event.”

I whirl around and see Dante dressed in a white tux. On his arm is a gorgeous woman with long black hair and a flaming red dress. Where I’m a little terrified to be here, she looks a little pissed off.

“It’s a romance movie from her favorite author, so it made it a little easier,” Em replies. “And who is this?”

“Hailey Patterson,” the woman with black hair says before Dante can respond. “We work together.”

Dante chuckles. “Her father owned the resort that I bought.”

Em nods slowly, a nearly imperceptible grin curling the corners of his lips. I’m missing something, but it’s something that neither of them wants to talk about.

“Well, are we going to go in?” Hailey asks.

Em takes my arm and leads me to the red carpet. I try to keep the smile on my face as we pose for pictures.

This is how I become part of Em’s world. It’s the hard part, but I’m strong enough.

“This is Madison Carter, my girlfriend,” Em says to a reporter. As the lights flash, he leans down and kisses my head.

When I look up at Em, he’s happy. Truly happy.

This is not a beauty pageant. This is not an act. This is just a storm that will blow through by the end of the night, and I’ll get to curl up with the man who has shown me a brand new world.

I step out of the limo at our house, completely exhausted. The movie was incredible, even though I still think the book is better. The limo pulls away as we get to the door, and Em stops me.

“Madison, I know you’re tired, but I need you to do something for me.”

I frown. All I want to do is fall into bed, but Em doesn’t ask for favors very often. “Okay,” I say a little hesitantly.

He gives me a shaky smile as he pulls a silver scarf from his tux pocket. “Let me blindfold you. I told you I have a surprise.”
