He chuckles. “Roommates that share a bed and make out on subway platforms. Fine. Not a date date. A sex date. Is that better?”

I squint at him. “What? There’s no such thing as a sex date.”

“Maybe not in Addison’s world. But for once, I’m going to show you a thing or two about what I could have had if I’d been more like my brother.”

“I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean. Is your brother a man whore or something?”

Phillip grins and sighs. “No, he spends money to impress people. He helps them do things that normal people aren’t able to do.”

I don’t know how I feel about all of this. Our little dynamic made sense. I teach Phillip how to do things like make coffee, and we have awesome sex. And maybe he gives me inspiration for my book. Just a little.

“You’re serious about wanting to do this? You really want to dip your toes into the billionaire world again while you’re specifically on vacation away from it?”

He nods. “I want to let you experience something new. Not just me. You’ve made the past week better than any I can remember, and I want to return the favor.”

Should I tell him that since he moved in, I’ve been happier than I can remember? I don’t know. We have an agreement. We’re just roommates that share a bed. But he really has been pretty amazing.

I don’t want to admit it, even to myself, but I’m really falling for Phillip Loughton. Even though I know all the reasons I shouldn’t. There are some people that you can’t turn away from.

“Okay, I’ll go on your weird billionaire sex date, Phillip. Just remember that we’re both broke, and I refuse to dine and dash. I will force you to wash dishes all night if you can’t afford dinner we order.”

He has to stop walking, leaning against a streetlight, as he starts laughing. I don’t know if it’s laughing or actually cackling. “Oh no, we won’t be eating on this date. Well, you won’t be.”

“Damn it, Phillip. Now I don’t even know what to wear. Just freaking tell me.”

He grins and opens his laptop bag. Then he does something I definitely did not expect. He pulls out a pair of board shorts. With cookie monster on the front of them. “You’re going to wear a swimsuit.”

Thirty-Three

PHILLIP

Addison’s confused, and I understand why. A billionaire sex date? In a swimsuit? That’s just not exactly what most people would expect, but I know a guy with a very unique swimming pool.

And he owes me a favor. See, the thing about being rich is that money is only one type of currency that’s exchanged. Sure, it’s the thing that’s written down and tracked by the government, but the real deals happen because of the more dangerous currency: favors.

I may not have access to money right now, but I still have a bank account full of favors in the world of the rich and famous, and I’ve never cashed in any of them. I never even thought about it since I didn’t really have a reason before. What could I possibly need from a multi-platinum rock star in my previous life? They didn’t influence readers or book buyers.

But they do have really extravagant pools.

“Don’t let yourself get all twisted up over the details, Addison. Just go with it. I put a lot of thought into this, so for once, just trust me.”

I can see her hesitancy, but she sighs and says, “Fine. Take me swimming on a roommate adventure. Not a sex date because that feels weird and creepy.”

“Weird and creepy? I feel like you should have a mug that says something similar.”

Her hesitancy seems to fall away as she grins at me. “Maybe I should. Then it could be your cup. How about ‘You’re weird and creepy. And I like it.’?”

I grab her hand again as we laugh, and I see her eyes soften at my touch. I never thought I’d enjoy touching her quite this much. She seems to feel the same.

“Come on. Let’s go pick up your swimsuit so we can go on our ‘roommate adventure’ together. I can’t wait for you to see where we’re going.”

“No. This is not real. You put LSD in my drink, and I’m tripping balls right now.”

We’re standing on the glass rooftop of a skyscraper. Hundreds of feet above the city, it’s like we’re completely separate from the rest of the world. And the scene below our feet is even more otherworldly.

The Olympic-size pool is directly in front of us, with water glowing purple in the fading sunlight. The pool itself isn’t all that special except that it also has a glass bottom.
