Tears leaked from her eyes. Tears that made my stomach clench, and that made my blood boil. Crocodile tears. No woman had gotten to me with them before, but no woman had ever been Beth.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, crying harder. “I’m sorry. I wanted to tell you, but I was scared.”

“Scared of what? Did they fucking pay you to keep me away from my house? Did they pay you to let me screw you?”

“No!” she gasped. “I swear I don’t know anything about that. I had no idea you’d been drugged. I was shocked when you told me.”

“But you got paid to screw me, nevertheless. Who paid you?” My voice was hard, my fists clenched by my sides, because I wanted to hit something so fucking hard right now. Hard enough to break my own damn knuckles. “Who?” I screamed.

“No one!” She wept. Shook her head like an innocent. “No one paid me. You… you flirted with me. You said you wanted to-to go to bed. And I couldn’t resist.” The last part came out a whisper.

I laughed. Cold. Hard. “I don’t believe you.”

“I’m not a whore. How could you think that? I only slept withyou.”

“But you didn’t,” I said furiously. “You told me that already, but I never listened. You said some guy sorted things out with Nina the last time he fucked you so that you wouldn’t get fired.” I laughed harshly. What a fool I had been.

“That’s not true,” she gasped. “I meant the first time I had slept withyou. I didn’t know you never remembered it. I just thought you were ignoring me because you didn’t care. But then… then I realised you never even remembered.”

“And it suited you not to remind me?” I said cynically.

My God, even as she sat on that bed, her face pale and drawn, I wanted her. I wanted to rip that pretty blouse off her, shove that pink skirt up and bury myself between her soft, sleek thighs. Hear her moan and scream as I made her come.

Fuck, I wanted her.

“Get out,” I said, my voice ragged.

Her eyes widened. “What?”

“Get the fuck out of my house, youwhore.”

She rose from the bed and came to me. Clenched my shirt in her fists, her sweet face so frightened, her gorgeous green eyes so big, so dewy.

“No Marco, please don’t say that. I didn’t mean to lie. I swear. It just happened. And I was scared. But I shouldn’t have been a coward. I should have told you everything—”

I clamped my hand over her deceitful mouth.

“Shut up. I don’t want to hear it. I brought you into my family home to take care of you, you wretched little liar. I thought that creep Landry was after you, but maybe you fucked him too?”

“What?” she gasped.

“Did you cook up this little scheme with him? Maybe that’s why he was in that smoking parlour with you all alone, huh? You’ve played us all for fools. Is he in on this with you?”

I was shaking with anger and struggling to keep it inside me. How could I have allowed a pretty face to play me for an utter fool?

Her face went stiff. She backed away from me, her small fists clenched at her sides. “No. How could you think that?”

Oh so sweet, her gentle little voice, designed to tear men’s fucking hearts out.

“All this time I’ve wasted thinking of worthlessscumlike you when I should have followed my instincts all along.”

“Your instincts?” she said, her voice trembling.

“About what sort of woman you really are. Instead of looking out for my own sister, I was too busy thinking of you. Well, you got me, honey. I fell for it. But it’s over.”

I stalked close enough for her to see the fire in my eyes. To let her know not to fuck with me. My voice hardened to steel. “Tell me the truth. Do you know who broke into my house that night?”

Her face tightened. She shook her head. “No.”
