“Like I said, when you meet the woman you can’t live without, you won’t be saying shit like that.”

For a solid hour, Cole fired pucks. Jaime was in the zone, guarding the net with everything he had, so he might not have noticed the shard of light in his peripheral vision. He would’ve blocked it out had it not been for Cole’s reaction.

His friend’s concentration broke, and his whole being perked up to welcome his family. Jaime had to set his stick down and watch.

His friend skated to the edge of the rink and stepped out, dropping to his knees as both daughters ran straight to him. His hand hit the rubber behind him to keep from toppling over, but then he was hugging them tightly, whispering in their ears, unable to hide his enormous grin. Hailey joined them, wrapping her arms around the trio. They were a ball of joy and love.

It knocked Jaime on his ass. He couldn’t say why. He had that kind of love with his own daughter, so it wasn’t jealousy.

And yet, how could he explain the ache in his chest as Cole got up, carrying both girls, and the four of them clung together, talking like they hadn’t seen each other in a year.

Jaime didn’t want to be married. And yet…this yearning…

He squeezed his eyes shut, willing it to stop.

Because hedidwant that.

He wanted a mom for Kinsley, and for him, he wanted the kind of trust and intimacy his parents had. Hell, he loved being a dad so much, he’d like more kids.

He’d just never wanted a woman the way Cole wanted Hailey.

And Cole was right. The timinghadbeen terrible when he’d reunited with Hailey, and yet he’d flipped his life upside down for her and those kids. He’d left Boston, left the Brawlers, and started a new life—all for love.

So, maybe one day…when Jaime met the right woman.

He ignored the whisper from deep inside that said,You already have.

Because it was different with Grace.

She could never live in Calamity, and he could never leave.

This is ridiculous.

Jaime threw back the covers, got up, and slammed his window shut. Ever since Grace had moved in, the smell of her baking wafted in and woke him up. It had only gotten worse when she’d taken over the big house’s kitchen.

Bullshit.

He couldn’t sleep because he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Wanting her. He could try to avoid her. He could remind himself a thousand times a day how impossible a relationship was with her, but nothing stopped his body from its wretched desire to be with her.

And all because he knew what it was like to run his hands all over her smooth skin and taste her mouth, her fingers, and the slick heat between her legs. To hear the sounds she made as he licked inside her and found that hard little nub that made her cry out.

To know the feel of her tongue licking his cock.

Fuck my life.

All he wanted was to avoid temptation, and what did he do? He’d invited it onto his ranch.

Mashing his face into the pillow while rubbing the heel of his hand on his dick, he squeezed his eyes shut.

Screw it.He got out of bed, checked on his daughter, and quietly went downstairs. Just to be safe, he pulled the old baby monitor out of the cabinet and plugged it in. Then, he stepped outside.

He’d done a lot of landscaping on the Dream House to make it feel isolated from the bunkhouse, the cabins, the barns and corrals. He’d wanted it to feel like an oasis, a retreat. Trees and bushes surrounded it, but if he stood righthere,he could see through the foliage to the kitchen windows.

And there she was. Grace shaking her ass and swinging her glossy dark hair to the beat.

He found himself on the move, his need for her more powerful than his ability to resist. The closer he got, the better the view. This woman just seemed to love life. Fuck the wedding that never happened, fuck the savings gone in the tap of a button, and fuck losing the man she’d known for fifteen years.

Gracie Giordano was doing what she loved. This woman washappy.
