Page 5 of Tanner's Forever

“You’re a better man than most, Tanner. A lot of men would fill the loneliness while they were on the road.”

“Look, if I’m single, that’s one thing. I’m not opposed to having some fun, but if I have a girl waiting for me back home, I’m waiting until I can be with her. My hand will get me by if I get lonely enough.”

My brothers and I all tend to live by a certain code when it comes to the fairer sex. We watched our mother get treated like crap when we were younger by every Tom, Dick, And Harry she could find. We watched every guy she dated—or married—make her cry. The three of us took the same silent vow to never make a woman cry like that.

I’m no saint. But I’m no cheater either.

Just a hopeless romantic looking for someone to share my life with.

Devon points to the stage. “Are you going to sing?”

“Do I look like I sing karaoke?”

“I don’t know. With that hair, you might.”

Both of my brothers love to give me shit about my hair. It’s a little past my shoulders and blonde in color. I don’t care what either of those fuckers think. Women love my hair.

I take my final shot on the pool table, securing my win against Devon.

Pointing to a couple of women stepping onto the stage, he asks, “Want to grab a table and enjoy the show?”

“Sure.”

We walk over and sit at an empty table in front of the stage. I’m surprised one this close is open, but I guess no one wants to be this close to all the bad singing.

When we sit down, Devon’s eyes immediately lock onto the women—the taller one in particular.

“Damn, look at the legs on her,” he says.

Both of the women are cute, but neither of them really do it for me. Maybe I’m just not in the mood. They start singing a popular song. They can’t carry a tune well, but they’re having fun.

In the middle of their singing, Devon asks, “So, when do you get back on the road?”

“Monday.”

“And you come back when?”

“Probably a week and a half or so. Right now, I’m home about every other weekend. Lord willing I get this supervisor position soon so that I can be home more.”

The women finish up their song. Before they get off the stage, they pull a woman who I assume is their friend up there with them.

And this one catches my eye.

My lord, she’s gorgeous.

Okay, it’s definitely not that I’m not in the mood.

She has dark, straight hair, big blue eyes, and cute pouty lips.

And that body? Holy shit.

You ever hear that saying thick thighs save lives? I’m fairly sure this woman’s thighs could bring me back from the dead. And she’s got the juicy booty to match.

Even with her on the stage, I can see her cheeks turning pink as the bright spotlight hits her. Embarrassment shows as eyes start to fall on her. As the music starts, I worry she’s going to chicken out and run off the stage. But right before the first verse starts, she grabs the mic and starts to sing.

And boy, can she sing.

The woman is belting out the words like it’s some sort of American Idol audition. She sings the country song, Heads Carolina, Tails California which makes everyone go crazy and start cheering. Surprisingly, that seems to make her look even more embarrassed.
