As they stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, Viv knew that despite the ordeal she’d just experienced, she had never felt more secure.

Red’s house was a place that had begun to feel like home. The familiar scent of his cologne and that old guitar in the corner filled her with a sense of comfort and belonging.

“Let me put you to bed. Doc said you should take it easy for a few days.”

“You can take me to bed, but I’ll be disappointed if you take it too easy on me.”

Their eyes met, and seeing the hunger in his caused her heart to skip a beat. “Are you sure?” He gently brushed her cheek with the back of his fingers, the warmth of his touch sending shivers of bliss through her.

She closed her eyes momentarily, savoring the feeling and the emotions it stirred within her. “Absolutely positive.”

Their lips met in a tender and deliberate kiss, a sweet taste of love and trust. Their hands danced, exploring one another’s bodies, and Viv marveled at the sensations coursing through her. The feel of Red’s strong hands on her skin, the sound of their breathing, and the heat of their connection were intoxicating.

He led her to his room, and the bath filled with red rose petals he had prepared earlier as the last gate of anticipation to cross before what he knew would follow. Viv guessed he must have filled it with water while Doc was finishing his exam. She wondered where he had gone. The fragrance of the rose petals in the hot water rose to her nostrils and made the air sensual and inviting. They undressed one another; Red pulled the single zipper on Viv’s dress and let it fall to the floor. His hands and gravity dispatched Viv’s bra and underwear next. Viv could tell by Red’s expression and the change in his body temperature that he liked what he saw. Their movements were unhurried and deliberate, a silent promise that they had all the time in the world. As they climbed into the bath, their bodies entwined, Viv reveled in the warmth of the water and Red’s body pressed against hers. When her fingers pruned, she said, “Let’s get out.” She wanted the full landscape of Red’s bed for what would follow.

At first, they kissed with a pace and tenderness that belied the urgency of their need.

Running his hands along the curve of her body, he adored every inch of her. His eyes feasted upon her, and his fingers sought to memorize each inch of her curves and planes. Viv felt her skin flush as he brushed his lips across her flesh.

Their breathing joined in a synchronized chorus of panting, echoing the rhythm of their hearts beating in perfect time. He spent what felt like a lifetime tantalizing and tormenting her, but when he entered her, it was tender and transcendent. People often said the best things are worth waiting for, but she was glad she hadn’t delayed another minute.

“That was unbelievable,” she sighed.

“No, Viv. That was only the beginning.” Red took Viv to heights of pleasure she never knew existed as she felt him love her again with everything he had.

As they lay together afterward, their limbs tangled and their breaths mingling, Viv rested her head on Red’s chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart. It was a soothing sound, a reminder that they were alive and together.

As Red’s fingers traced idle patterns on her skin, he whispered sweet words into her hair. “I love you, Viv. I can’t imagine my life without you.”

Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, but she blinked them back. “I love you too, Red. You’ll never have to imagine that because I can’t be without you.”

Viv couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of contentment as they drifted off to sleep. She was exactly where she was meant to be, wrapped in Red’s arms. The world outside, with all its dangers and uncertainty, seemed to fade away, leaving them in their cocoon of warmth and safety.

She glanced at the corner where one of Red’s guitars sat, a silent witness to their love, and she smiled. Their passion which had filled the room lingered still, and she couldn’t help but wonder if it would inspire him to create beautiful melodies about their journey together.

As sleep finally claimed her, Viv knew deep in her heart that their love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle.

CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR

Viv sat on the couch in Red’s boxer shorts and T-shirt, and he’d never seen her look so beautiful. The last few weeks were spent making love or eating—or both. He was happy to say that Viv’s appetite in the bedroom was just as ravenous as it was in the kitchen. She never seemed to get her fill, and he was thrilled to oblige her every craving.

They’d settled into a happy routine. Viv stayed with Vortex as the CEO but ran it from a spare room in Red’s house in Aspen Cove. She would no longer leave on assignment but run the cybersecurity end of things. Red decided he was no longer touring. His favorite place was sitting in his living room, playing guitar, and watching Viv rule over Vortex. She could do anything she put her mind to, but he loved that she chose the path that would keep her there with him.

Red grabbed his guitar and sat beside her, a playful glint in his eyes. “I’ve written you a song.”

“Do you think that’s wise? I mean, you could be singing it for the rest of your life,” she said, gently mocking what he had told her months ago.

“I hope so.”

He began to strum the chords.Oh, Viv, my love, you light up my day. But there’s something funny, I just have to say, When you dance in the kitchen, it’s a sight to see. Your moves are wild, but they’re perfect to me.

You’re my quirky girl, my lovable goof. Together we’re solid. We’re bulletproof.

You wear mismatched socks. It’s your signature style. But baby, you pull it off with grace and a smile. And when you sing. You’re slightly off-key. But that’s what makes it charming to me.

You’re my quirky girl, my lovable goof. Together, we’re solid. we’re bulletproof.

His voice filled the room as he sang the humorous lyrics.
