Viv’s eyes widened in surprise, but soon she was chuckling and shaking her head in disbelief.

As Red finished the song, Viv laughed out loud. “That’s my love sonnet? A song where you pick on my dancing and pitch problems? You missed that I eat a lot.”

He did his best to look serious. “You don’t like it? I thought the band could play it at our wedding. I figured Lucky could be our flower dog.” He sat across from her, doing his best to look earnest, and it appeared as if it was working, until she smiled, and he broke out into laughter.

“Oh my gosh. This is your payback for me pineapple-ing you.”

“I said I’d get you back.”

Viv leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. “You got me good.” She lifted her brows as if it had finally dawned on her that he was talking about their wedding. “Wedding? Flower dog?”

He situated his guitar and began to strum the chords again. He’d been writing this song for her since the moment he met her. It originally played in his head and now played from his heart.

From the moment I saw you, my world turned anew, a spark in your eyes, like the sunrise, so true. We danced through the days like a sweet serenade; through laughter and tears, our love never fades.

You’re my heart, you’re my soul, you’re the melody; together, we’ve grown in perfect harmony.

The nights we’ve spent under a sky full of stars. We’ve shared our dreams, our hopes, and our scars. Your touch sets me ablaze. Our love intertwines. With every beat of your heart, I know that you’re mine.

He looked into her eyes for the next verse.

And now I stand before you, my heart in my hand. With a question that lingers like prints in the sand. For a love that’s unyielding, a love that’s so true. I can’t imagine a life without you. So, Viv, my love, my laughter, my muse. I stand here before you, hoping it’s me that you choose. Will you marry me and share this beautiful ride. Let’s walk hand in hand, and side by side.

He set down his guitar, took a knee, and drew a Tiffany box from his pocket. The only time he remembered being this nervous was when he stepped on the stage, hoping the audience would love him. And now, none of that mattered because a life without Vivian Armstrong wasn’t a life worth living.

“You’re asking me to marry you?”

He smiled. “Well, I’m not asking Lucky.”

“That’s good because he’s not really your type; he’s got bad breath, and he licks himself.”

She opened the box and saw the ring he’d chosen for her. It was two bands twisted together without an end. In the center was a solitaire that glistened and sparkled. Viv’s eyes welled up with tears as she looked back up at Red and nodded, her voice trembling. “This is … beautiful,” she whispered.

“It pales in comparison to you.” Red took her hand and slipped the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly, just like the two of them, destined to be woven together forever.

“Viv, you make me the happiest man alive,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I promise to spend the rest of my life working to make you just as happy.”

She laughed. “You better because I’m a damn good shot.”

He’d almost forgotten that he would become a target if she ever became unhappy, but that would never be an issue. He’d spend the rest of his life making sure of it.

“Yes, I will marry you—and Lucky.”

They sealed their promise with a tender, passionate kiss, and as they held each other close, they knew they had found happily ever after in each other’s arms.
