Her hands tightened. “Please stay.”

It would be more torture. Staying in bed, holding her. He’d risk giving into things he shouldn’t. “You’ll sleep better without me.”

“That’s not true. I…I don’t want the nightmare to come back. I know it won’t if you’re here with me.”

Bram sighed and slid a hand into her hair. “All right, sunshine. Sleep now.”

She sighed, relaxing against him, her hand over his heart.

Desire thrummed through him, but he held her. It was worth every bit of torture.

Waking slowly,Addie stretched her arms over her head. She felt warm and cozy. She could smell Bram.

Bram.

She remembered the nightmare. It didn’t seem so bad now, in the light of the morning. Bram had held her in those strong arms the rest of the night. It had felt so right.

He was gone now. She opened her eyes and saw the indent in the pillow beside her and stretched her arm out. The sheets were cool.

She bit her lip. He’d stayed with her because she’d begged him. Her chest tightened. He’d protect her, look after her, because he was a good guy, and she was pregnant.

But it didn’t mean he wanted her.

Her mother’s words echoed in her head.

Never trust a man, Adaline. They get what they want, and then they lose interest. It’s just a fact of life.

Her legs twisted in the sheets, her body hot. His hard body had been pressed against hers, and she’d felt the strength of his chest, covered in that light dusting of red hair.

He was so big, solid, manly. He made her feel so small and feminine.

Those ten days when he’d shared her bed, he’d wanted her. He hadn’t been able to get enough of her. Every night, he’d come to her place, and he’d get her naked as fast as possible.

Wherever she was, he’d take her. He’d spread her on the couch, and put his head between her legs until she’d been sweaty and screaming. Once, he’d fucked her hard on the kitchen counter while breakfast burned in the pan. He’d taken her roughly against the wall.

She’d loved the force of his need, like he couldn’t get enough of her.

Now, he hesitated any time he touched her.

Addie was starting to realize her dreams had shifted and changed. While dancing would always be important to her, being a star and dancing on stage wasn’t what she wanted.

She wanted to be the best mother she could. She rubbed circles on her belly. And she wanted Bram.

Her skin felt flushed, her belly heavy. Damn, hormones.

She sat up, then headed for the bathroom. She washed up and pulled on her cute robe over her T-shirt. She was wearing another one of Bram’s shirts. She pushed her hair back and went in search of him.

He wasn’t in the living room or kitchen. She frowned. Maybe he’d gone into the office early.

Then she heard a sound from the second bedroom. She wandered down the hall and found the door ajar. She peered through the crack.

He was still shirtless. That gave her a little thrill. Her gaze ran over the slabs of muscle and large biceps.

Addie swallowed. His black pajama pants rode low on his hips. He sat on a stool, mostly in profile to her. His hands were moving.

On the table in front of him was… She blinked. A block of wood. He was carving.
