“You don’t have friends there anymore, Theodora.” King disregards me and the wound is peeled wide-open, cutting me deep at the reminder.

“I-I...” I stutter, trying to get the words out.

“Sit down,” he finalises, dismissing any more of my rant.

Feeling defeated and cut open, I slowly go to take my seat, but Rori slams her feet to the ground and pushes her chair back, snapping my attention over to her.

“Fuck off, King. Do you not have a sensitive bone in your body?”

Now this time I know for sure she’s defending me. Whether it was my vulnerability and my lack of strength to keep fighting back that did it, or she’s just had enough, I don’t know, but I’m grateful.

“I don’t need to be sensitive,” he mumbles and it almost looks like he’s cowering under Rori’s presence. Her loud, sarcastic laugh echoes through the room again.

“I’ll be sure to throw the loss of Puck in your face next time I wanna knock you down. Maybe Bonnie, hmm?” she spits, literal venom coming out of her mouth.

I wince at Bonnie’s name. I spoke to Puck many times about her but never with King. I forget he was her brother and I feel bad for never mentioning her.

“Rori,” Dax warns again, standing up too.

Rori huffs and walks to the door, halting at the entrance. She turns around to look me dead in the eyes.

“You coming?” she asks, and although I have no idea who she is or whether she even likes me, going with her seems a better deal than staying here.

I jump up and spin on my heel as I make my way to the door, but before I even get two steps in, King’s large hand wraps around my wrist, holding me back.

“You will sit and eat, Theodora. You haven’t eaten in ages. You’re weak,” he fires at me, a tone so commanding that it knocks me for six.

Rori sighs and as I look back at her, the doorway is empty, and Dax is following her out of it. I roll my eyes at everyone’s defeat, including my own.

Showing no signs of movement, King drags me backwards and forces me back into my chair.

“You fucking move, I’ll tie you to it.”

I stare at my plate and consider running, up for the challenge. But I know he’d do it. Rori leaving proves exactly that. No one was going to win here apart from him.

I think about what he said over and over again in my head.

“You’re weak.”

I know he’s referring to the fact I haven’t eaten, but Iamweak. What happened to Theodora Harlow? The same one who killed the big, bad Carlo Rhivers five months ago?

“Theodora, eat!” King demands again but quieter.

“I don’t want to,” I whisper.

“Quite frankly, I don’t give a fuck. Eat your goddamn food and be grateful.”

“Grateful?” I question, finally looking up at him. “You want me to be grateful?”

King rolls his eyes, preparing for yet another argument.

“Sure, okay, thank you, King, for keeping me alive and safe under your roof, but don’t you dare ask me to be grateful foranythingelse. What am I so lucky about, huh? My dad disowning me? Losing Puck? Your shitty treatment of me? How about being fucked like a goddamn whore and then dropped on my ass when you got your bit?”

“Theodora, let’s not forget why the fuck you’re here in the first place!” he throws back at me. I stand, completely losing my shit.

“Fuck Carlo. You didn’t even like Carlo! Don’t throw that in my face. You have fucking everything, King. Everything! And what do I have?”

“Everything?” King interrupts, standing to tower over me. “No, Theo, I don’t have everything. I have Dax, and Rori, and you. That’s it!” he shouts, locking my eyes with his.
