I lowered my head and licked at a salty drop that ran over her collarbone, leaving a trail of goose bumps in my wake. Fuck, I needed her.

My grip tightened on her hips. “Are you ready to get out of here?”

She laughed. “You made it through less than one song.”

“It’s not my fault you’re too sexy to resist.”

Her smile was blinding, so happy and content. I couldn’t ruin that for her. I couldn’t stand the idea of bringing her pain even if it was too late to avoid that.

“Three more songs.”

I groaned. “Now you’re just trying to torture me.”

“Maybe.” Her eyes danced with amusement.

The next three songs the band played were the longest I’d ever heard. Sierra and I spent them all on the dance floor while I pushed away the conversation I’d had with my brothers and lost myself in the feel and scent of her.

When the third song finally ended, I grasped Sierra’s wrist and pulled her toward the bar where the others were sitting. Kylie appeared to be drinking water at least.

“We’re going home,” I said, not much caring if she was ready to go or even if she came home with us.

“I’m going to stay,” Kylie said. “I’ll get an Uber home.”

“No need for an Uber,” Joriel said. “I’ll take you home.”

Sierra narrowed her eyes at him. “She better get home safely and without alcohol poisoning,” she said softly enough that only those of us with superhuman hearing would be able to make it out.

Joriel nodded in agreement.

Sierra’s gaze lingered on the three of them for another second before she let me pull her out of the club.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as we walked to her car. “You’re frowning.”

“I’m worried about her. She’s gone through some shit in her life, and honestly, I don’t know how she trusts anyone at this point.”

I squeezed her hand. I’d have hugged her, but I didn’t want to prolong our stay in downtown. “It’s going to be okay. If either of them hurt her, I’ll make them regret it.”

She smiled. “Thank you.”

I couldn’t hold back my surprised laugh. “You are the most perfect girl in the world, you know that? You just thanked me for offering to do undefined things to an angel in revenge.”

“Just don’t kill anyone or get yourself in trouble.” She reached for the handle of the driver’s side door and climbed into the car.

“Did you have a good talk with your brothers?” she asked once we were driving back to her apartment.

“As good as could be expected.”

Her grip tightened on the steering wheel. “Are you going to give me any details?”

“They’re going to be sticking around to help keep you safe and deal with the demons.”

“Why now? If they’re worried about you, why didn’t they show up after the time you got hurt?”

“It wasn’t up to them. They came when they were sent.” I let out a heavy breath. “I trust them. They’ve always had my back, and I don’t believe they’ll betray me now.”

She nodded, falling quiet for the rest of the trip.

The second the door to Sierra’s apartment shut behind us, I pulled her close and crushed my lips against hers. The kiss was desperate, and I knew I was showing her all my fear, but I couldn’t control myself. I felt like a starving man, and she was the only thing that could save me.
