“I will use you however I want.”

She whips her head toward me, her lips parted like she has so much more to say but can’t speak the words. We stare at each other for a long minute. Silence assaults my ears, louder than the most piercing screams. Unanswered questions pop between by ears like bullets, my veins flooded with rage, my heart pumping furiously with forbidden lust.

I forget her brothers are still here with us. A soft touch on the top of my hand jolts me. My gaze falls to Daniela, who is gazing up at me with those knowing eyes that make my heart dip in my chest. Her stubby fingers rub the lines of my finger tattoos.

She’s making a connection.

Fuck, I feel it in the depths of my bones, along with my loss of control.

It rattles me more than any death threat ever could.

I’m a master assassin. Guns, knives, and explosives don’t scare me.

But the dangers posed by these two are something I’m not trained to handle.

And if I make the wrong move, there’ll be so much blood on my hands, I won’t ever be able to scrub them clean.

Chapter12

Larysa

“Give me the baby.”

I recoil as if Danil just swung a blow torch at my face. “Over my dead and bloated body.”

“You need to go upstairs and put on clothes. Would you rathermestrip you out of that robe, right here in front of your brothers?” He quirks an eyebrow. “Besides, having the kid in my arms guarantees that you won’t try anything stupid.”

A tear spills down the side of my face. I bury my head in Daniela’s soft curls and sniffle. All I wanted to do was play piano. That’s it. I lived, slept, and breathed piano for my entire life. I had such focus and determination. A plan for my life and career. I did everything I could to achieve my dreams…until I got that fucking letter.

One rejection.

One horribly bad decision.

And here it is, back to haunt me in more ways than one.

Because, as it happens, I’m not the only one who made the wrong choices.

Danil grazes the side of my head with the gun. “What’s it gonna be?”

Hadeon takes a few steps toward us, his eyes bright with fury.

“If you come any closer, I’ll shoot you in the head.” Danil says the words with the nonchalance of someone giving directions to a stranger on the street. He never once takes his eyes off of me when he utters the threat. “I’ve got eyes everywhere. And it’s because of my eyes that you aren’t already dead.”

Hadeon snorts. “I could’ve taken that guy out without you.”

“But you didn’t.” Danil nods his head toward my bedroom upstairs. “Go change. We’ve already been here too long.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

Danil lets out a frustrated sigh, like he’s trying to explain nuclear physics to a five-year-old. “The guy who just blew the place to hell might have been the second string, called in when the first guy didn’t confirm his kill. What do you think is gonna happen when the second guy doesn’t call in that the hit was done?”

“They’ll send in a third string.”

“Ding, ding. You got it, princess.” He leans closer, his breath hot against my cheek. But instead of the sensation making my skin crawl, hordes of anticipatory goosebumps pebble my arms instead. “Now here’s my take on this whole shit show. The first guy came here when you were by yourself. That tells me you’re the target. You…” He pauses. “Or the kid.”

“No.” I clap a hand over my mouth. Please God, no!

“You didn’t think of that, did you?”
