My own crippling thoughts ring out in my mind, clashing between my ears like banging cymbals.

I always criticized my brothers for following their dicks instead of focusing on their priority — our family.

But now I know I’m no better than them, and love makes you do fucked-up things like put your quest for safetyandsanity on permanent hold.

“I had to let her go. I didn’t have a shot. He had a gun to her head.”

“Aren’t you supposed to be some master assassin?” Hadeon rolls his eyes, gripping the arm of the couch tight for balance.

“I wasn’t gonna risk her getting hurt.” My gut wrenches at the memory of her panicked face as Adrian dragged her out of here. “He might not have killed her, but he’d have hurt her just to prove a point. Just like when he shot you.”

I pull off my jacket and wrap it around Hadeon’s shoulders. “Keep this around you. It’s black and you won’t see the blood.”

A swift knock at the door jars me. Who the hell is that?

I walk over to the door and take a deep breath before cracking it open. A perky blonde flashes a bright smile at me.

“Hi, is Miss Andreev here yet?” She holds out a crystal vase of flowers. “These were just delivered. I brought the other ones in earlier. I was hoping she might be here by now. I know it’s early, but—”

“She’s on her way. I’ll take those.” I grab the vase and shut the door. “So many vases and you couldn’t have landed one of them against his damn head? I should have known I’d be left here dragging your sorry ass out, just like I did that night at the house.”

“I’m out of practice,” Hadeon grumbles. “That’s what happens when your life spirals and nobody gives a shit about you anymore.”

“You’d better get in practice damn fast. We don’t have much time.” I stare at him. “Can you walk without me carrying you?”

He pushes past me, his movements stiff. “I’ve got it.”

We leave the room and head down the hallway. It’s still quiet and pretty empty. And by some stroke of dumb luck, there are no eyes on us as we make our way to the exit. And since Adrian used a silencer so the gunshot that took out Hadeon was muted, we haven’t made any suspicious sounds.

“What about the show? Is there someone we should tell?”

I snort. “Yeah, you want me to get the floral delivery girl back here so I can let her know there might be a delay because we have to rescue the star who was kidnapped from her dressing room at gunpoint?”

“Asshole.”

I shove open the door that leads to the parking garage and check my phone again. Stabbing Tori’s number into the screen, I silently will her to answer.

When I put the phone to my ear, the line just hangs. Dead air.

Dead…

Fuck.

My heart pounds like a drum, each slam against my ribcage shattering my brain. I have to save them.Bothof my girls.

I grab my keys and pull open the driver’s side door. Hadeon is only half in the seat by the time I start the ignition.

“Will you stop being a pussy and just get in?”

He flips me off. “I was pretty set on killing you a week ago. Don’t think I still won’t try if you piss me off.”

“You’ve got no reason to kill me. You know I didn’t kill Olek.” I press my foot on the gas. The tires squeal, the smell of burning rubber hitting my nostrils. The Range Rover speeds up the ramp and out of the garage. We corner hard. Hadeon grabs the “oh, shit” bar above him on the door.

“And you know we didn’t kill your mom. So we’re even. Tell me where we’re going. That guy and his crew have my family. Is that GPS working yet?”

I pull off to the side of the road outside the concert hall and refresh the map on the GPS screen. It blinks…once, twice, and finally I see a flashing car moving along Biscayne Boulevard. My brow furrows. Biscayne Bay?

I plug my phone into the smart screen. The map appears, the flashing car icon still heading south on Biscayne Boulevard. I stomp on the gas, pulling onto the road that’ll lead me in their direction. “I’ve got them. Now tell me what the hell happened. How did he get to you?”
