Eliana gazed around, finding the spotlight of the moon as it sliced through the deep, dark ocean. Her spirit was lively, but her heart was calm, her soul reassured, her mind quiet for one of the first times in her life.

This was what love truly was. Everything at once, a rainfall of sensation and wonder.

“This is where you came to sulk,” she said, smirking at her husband. “Where you were going to wander and then leave me.”

Lucas nodded, looking somber suddenly. He moved Eliana’s hands to his chest and rested them over his heart, Eliana’s eyes darting with intrigue.

“That is what happened here. This is also the place where you carried your shoes and you took a risk. You dared to dream of a life with your fated mate, even when all of the rationality in the world said it wasn’t going to work. You stepped up for me.”

Eliana smiled at him, feeling like it was never going to melt away. His voice was divine and tender, as luscious and sugary sweet as when they had first met.

“I did. I wanted you, and I needed to know what it felt like. And once I did, I couldn’t let you go.”

Lucas pressed Eliana’s palms harder against his chest, and she felt his heart beating. She moved closer to him as the moon glowed brighter in the sky, a forecast of extraordinary oblivion. Her wolf yelped excitedly at his touch.

“I want you to know, Eliana, that what you did for me is something I will treasure for the rest of our lives together. I don’t know where I would be if you hadn’t done that. I would be living my life entirely as half a person. But I promise you, I will never let fear get in the way like that ever again.”

Eliana stood on her tiptoes, and he craned his neck, lips less than an inch from one another.

“Or rationality?” she said.

Lucas chuckled, sounding like a little boy, before pressing his lips against hers. She melted into him, folding completely into the curve of his body.

“Never again,” he whispered back. “I will hold your essence like the bold flower that it is. I will solemnly keep you fed in every way imaginable.”

They kissed beside the waters where their love had budded. They surrendered to one another in the same way they would for the rest of their lives, riding the unending roller coaster of love and unbridled passion.
