"That was our spot," he said softly.

They fell quiet once more.

They pulled up at the new restaurant on the east side of town. It was fancier, which made her feel under-dressed. She glanced at Noah.

"I got us a spot outside on the patio. There will only be a few other people, and it was the only place in town that gave us enough space to talk."

She knew they needed to talk. And she could tell he had put thought into tonight. She nodded. They got out and headed inside. Noah went straight to the gal up front telling her his name and that he had a reservation. Five minutes later, they were seated on the back patio.

She took in the woods and the three other tables in the back. She'd only come to the restaurant a few times with friends.

"Have you eaten here before?" Noah asked, flipping through the menu.

"They have good burgers," she said, looking down. "And chicken. I've not had anything else."

The waitress walked over, giving them a smile. "Hi, my name is Jill. I'll be your server tonight. What can I get you guys to drink?"

"A water," she said, suddenly feeling parched.

"I'll have a water as well," he said, giving the gal a polite smile.

The waitress nodded and walked away. Becca looked at Noah, who was looking at her. It made her heart skip a beat. She remembered when he used to look at her like that. She always melted, and she felt it was just them against the world.

She quickly shook her head. She couldn't be thinking about those things. She couldn't be thinking about them when she was supposed to be hating him.

She exhaled and knitted her fingers together. "So, Noah, where have you been?"

She noted the look in his eyes, the pain of everything. She felt bad. But she couldn't just forgive him at the drop of a hat.

She watched him rub his hands together, seeming to look for the right words. He licked his lips and sighed. "After we left, we found a place to settle down for a while. Mitch eventually found a mate and moved. He's doing well for himself now."

He rubbed his thumbs together.

"I went to college and got out. Started working for a company and was doing well. We heard our parents moved back just a couple of years ago, and I thought maybe it was time to come back."

He looked into her eyes.

"And you?"

She thought about their break up … or the lack thereof.

She had woken up that morning, and she had gotten a message from Noah telling her he loved her and that he was sorry. She didn't even know he was leaving. She'd never known a heartbreak like that.

She remembered calling and texting. She remembered that after hearing nothing back and days of being sad, she grew angry. She texted him terrible things. Saying she wished she had never met him.

"I got a degree in business, and I opened an ice cream shop."

His eyebrows went up. "Lev said you own it."

She nodded. "Yes, I work when I can. I do nightshifts here and there because it allows me to slip in the back after hours more easily."

"Congrats. I didn't know you were into business."

She didn't expect him to. She found her passion for it a year after he had left. She gave him a weak smile. "We were teens when you last saw me, Noah. A lot has changed."

He looked back down at his hands. "I know."

The waitress came, setting down the waters. "All right, what would you guys like to order?"
