“I invited Dillon too,” I tell them, and they smile knowingly.

“And then tonight, you’re going to make your move, right?” Rhett asks.

“Sure. Can we get back to business now?”

“If we have to,” Anson sighs.

We go over the new client and come up with a game plan and schedule for protecting her. The new client is a recently divorced single mom whose husband was arrested for assault, but because he’s rich, he’s out on bail. She’s worried for her and her daughter’s safety, so we’ll be heading over there tonight to watch them and the house until the trial or until we can get them moved somewhere safer.

“Are you riding with me to lunch?” Kye asks, and I nod.

“Yeah, Dillon is meeting us there.”

He nods, and we gather up our things before we head out. The restaurant is only a few blocks away, and we pull up right as Dillon is climbing out of my Jeep.

“Hey! Perfect timing,” she says with a bright smile as we park next to her and get out.

“How was your morning?” I ask her.

“Good. I slept in a bit and then answered some emails.”

“Hey, Dillon! How’s it going?” Kye asks her as he pulls her into a quick hug.

“Pretty good. I’m enjoying the warm weather and all of my downtime,” she tells him as we head for the front door.

“That’s good. I think that everyone is already inside, so we’ll have to introduce you to them.”

“Gates told me about everyone already, so I feel like I already know them,” Dillon says as I hold the door open for her.

I spot everyone at a table in the back and lead Kye and Dillon in that direction.

“Guys, this is Dillon. Dillon, this is Rhett, Anson, Lottie, Aria, and Quinn,” I finish.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you guys,” Dillon says, waving as I pull out her chair.

“You too. We’ve heard so much about you,” Rhett says, and I kick him under the table.

He yelps, and I ignore him, passing Dillon a menu. She smiles at me, and my heart kicks against my ribs.

Fuck, she’s beautiful.

“So, you were a model, right?” Lottie asks her, and I try to get my feelings in check as the girls talk.

The girls seem to be getting along, and I relax. I want Dillon to have friends in the area and to like my friends. I want her to be happy here.

With me.

“Areyou headed back to the office after this?” I ask Gates as we wait for the waitress to come back with the bill.

“Yeah, we just got a new client, so I probably won’t be home for a few hours.”

He seems apologetic that he has to work, and I smile. I love how sweet and thoughtful Gates is. I know that he’s worried about me being bored here. It’s why he invited me out to lunch. I know that he was hoping that I would hit it off with Lottie, Aria, and Quinn. It’s also why he left me his keys this morning, even though it might have been inconvenient for him to get a ride from Kye.

He’s still looking out for me. I saw him glancing at me several times while we were eating to make sure that I was okay and having fun hanging out with everyone.
