Frank sendsme in to see my brother first so that he doesn’t know we came together.

“So, good news,” I say, walking into Cash’s office without knocking. I plop down in the seat opposite his and wait for him to give me his full attention.

“What’s that?” he asks, his voice devoid of emotion and so very un-Cashlike.

Oh, he’s going to turn that frown upside down once he hears what we have to say.

“I found her!”I exclaim, too excited to beat around the bush and wait for Frank.

Cash sighs and heaves himself out of his chair, ignoring my excited words completely and heading for the bar. He pours brown liquid into two glasses.

“What are you doing?”

Without a response, he simply walks back over and hands me one drink, then takes a sip from the other.

“Why are we drinking? I found her! Your mystery woman! Your Grace!”

With zero excitement, he sneers, “How?”

Frank walks in, and I point in his direction as he takes a seat beside me. “Okay, well, Frank found her.”

“Really, Frank?” my brother asks, like he’s annoyed.

“What? I found her like you asked. Don’t look at me like that.”

Cash tightens his grip on his drink and glares at his best friend. “Yeah, I asked you to give me the information. Not involve my sister.”

Frank smirks. “She’s better looking than you.”

“Cash, why don’t you seem more excited? We found her!” I fling the piece of paper Frank gave me in the elevator toward my brother. It has all of Grace’s information on it.

My brother doesn’t even look at it. “I found her too. Unfortunately, I also discovered she’s married. So, that ends that.”

My stomach drops. It appears all of us Jameses are unlucky when it comes to love.

“Why do you look miserable?” Sophie strides into my office and plants both hands on her hips, eyeing the plate on my desk.

I’m not proud of the scene she’s just stumbled upon. Me stress eating another one of Ivan’s waffles. Damn Jay for reminding me of how much I enjoy these things.

Around a huge bite, I reply, “I’m not.”

She laughs. “Yeah, okay. Considering we both know you only eat sugar when you’re stressed, I’m not buying it.”

Once I’ve swallowed the last bite, I rinse it down with a sip of coffee. I wish it was vodka.

“My brother fell for a married woman and Jay is my boss and I don’t get to have orgasms anymore because I was getting them from my brother’s best friend, but now my brother’s back. And he’s bitchy, by the way—which is so not Cash—so the orgasms had to stop, and I can’t even have orgasms.” I slump back in my chair. Fuck my life. Then I remember another kicker. “And to top it all off, I still can’t think of a damn story to win the position that should already be mine!”

Sophie’s eyes soften. “The position is yours, honey. Not just because Jay is trying to win you back and will undoubtedly give it to you as part of whatever his plan is, but because you deserve it. But what is this about Cash?”

I roll my eyes like a teenager. I’m so annoyed by my little brother it’s not even funny. “Cash met a woman when he was on that vacation last week,” I start, pushing the take-out tray away. “She ghosted him, and he asked us to find her.”
