If none of her brothers were answering, it was likely they were all at the hospital already.

A few minutes later, Gunner’s phone vibrated at the same time as mine.

He glanced at his screen and said, “We’re in lockdown.”

“Did they say anything else?”

“Nope.”

“I’ll drive to the hospital and then you can take the vehicle. Go get whatever you need and head over to the clubhouse.”

“Sure thing,” he replied. “Fuck, I hope she’s okay.”

“She’ll be okay.”

She has to be.

ChapterTwenty-Four

HARLEIGH

“What’s taking them so long?”I asked Brax.

“I’m sure they’re doing everything they can,” he assured me. “Why don’t you sit down?”

“I can’t sit. Not when I don’t know what’s happening with Bear.”

He stepped away from most of the shit we dealt with so he could run his gym. He wanted to be legit, so Erik gave him the easy way out. We invited my brother on jobs, and if he needed the cash, he would come. Otherwise, he was just content with his business.

It wasn’t supposed to be him lying on that table.

“Can you check with the nurse again?” I asked him.

He nodded and went toward the nurses’ station.

“He’s just worried,Kisa,” Dimitri told me as he wrapped an arm around me.

“I know he is,” I replied. “My pacing drives him crazy, so that’s why I gave him something to do.”

He pushed an errant strand of hair behind my ear, leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine. It was a chaste kiss, but it was exactly what I needed. Dimitri always seemed to know how to read me.

The smell of hospitals has always set me on edge. The only times I came here without being forced to was for the birth of my nieces and nephews.

Otherwise, I avoided them at all costs.

Just as he pulled back, there was a clattering of heels and deep rumbling voices coming from down the hall near the elevator. I turned to see Ana coming down the hall with my four brothers. Two on each side of her.

“Have you heard anything yet?”

I shook my head. “I’ve been sending Brax to ask every five minutes.”

Erik glanced at Brax, sizing him up before he said, “Thanks for getting them here so fast.”

“No problem.”

“Did you see who did it?” my brother John asked.

“It was a white van, but they took off before I could see them,” I answered.
