For all his neighbours to see.

Then we packed enough of his belongings to last a week and headed back to the clubhouse.

ChapterThirty

HARLEIGH

The next morning,I kissed Brax goodbye, the warmth of his lips lingering on mine as I watched him walk away. When I twisted around, I was met with the sight of Dimitri, who was smirking instead of displaying any signs of jealousy. Hunter was the only one who had a bit of a challenge with it, but ultimately, he joined Dimitri and I for an evening of fun.

That was when it hit me.

We were actually going to do this.

“Why are you looking at me that way?” Dimitri asked.

“I can’t believe it took me this long to figure out,” I said aloud.

“Took you this long to figure what out?”

“That you’re not jealous of them.”

“Well, I’m not,” he replied. “I want to see you happy.”

“Is that so hard to believe?”

“You’re a guy, of course it is,” I replied.

“So you’re saying because I have a dick that I have to be a dick?” he retorted. “When are you going to believe that I actually want you to be happy?”

“I didn’t know what to think,” I confessed.

“You think everyone’s out to get you, but in my case, you’re dead wrong,” he scowled.

Then before I could respond, he strode out of the room leaving me confused.

Now I’d gone and pissed off the only person who seemed to understand me. The one who truly looked beneath the surface and saw the real me, hidden from the world. Saw through the mask I wore around men. The one who scaled all my walls before I had a chance to defend them.

Great.

Maybe I should go after him? I threw my hands up in the air and turned toward the door. This relationship shit sucks sometimes. Just as I was about to open the door, Hunter poked his head in with a mischievous grin.

“Why did Dimitri come out of here looking like he wanted to strangle someone?” he asked.

“We had a tiny disagreement.”

“What about?”

“It’s between me and him.”

“If this thing between the four of us is ever going to work, we have to learn to trust each other.”

“Is that what you want?”

“It’s not ideal, but the line of work we’re in was one of the reasons I never thought of a relationship further than one night. I don’t want to leave anyone behind.”

“What does this arrangement change? Isn’t this still the same thing?” I argued.

“The difference is if I don’t come home, you won’t be left alone.”
