“So, because of the possibility of you dying, you’re willing to share me with two other men? That’s seems crazy.”

“I said that was one reason.”

“What’s the other reason?” I asked as I stepped within his reach.

He pulled me in close, the warmth of his arm around my waist radiating through me. He tenderly brushed his lips against mine, then gently rested his forehead against mine and murmured, “Because I get to do this whenever I want.”

I grinned. “Is that so?”

“I could do that and more right now if you’d let me, but we don’t have time. Prez wants everyone downstairs for Church.”

“What about Dimitri?”

“If you’re referring to the meeting, I’m sure someone’s already told him,” he replied. “If you’re talking about the argument, that’s up to you. If you think you should apologize, then do it.”

“What makes you think I should be the one apologizing?”

“Dimitri doesn’t get that pissed off when he’s wrong.”

“I have a hard time trusting everything.”

“People who have grown up like we did have difficulty trusting. Next time you get ticked off at him, just remember how hard he worked with us to get you back. He’s probably the only one out of the three of us who has never wavered when it came to you.”

“Really?”

“Just look at everything from outside. I pushed you away because of your brothers. Brax dropped off the planet because he was undercover and lied to you the whole time. Dimitri set you up as a fake girlfriend to make me jealous—”

“No he—”

“He told me.”

“Oh.”

“What I’m wondering is why you took him up on the offer?”

“Would you believe me if I told you he seemed like a safe option?”

“A friends with benefits situation?” He grinned.

“What can I say? A girl’s got needs. Plus, I’m a little leery over guys from the outside right now. The whole burn me once thing.”

“That’s understandable.”

I glance at the clock. It had been more than a few minutes since he’d been sent up here to get me. “We should get down there before they come looking.”

Once we wereall seated around the table, Erik said, “I know you’re all wondering about Brandt. He’s going as good as we can expect, but there will be one hell of a recovery. Once he gets out of the hospital, he’ll be moving into one of the rooms on the main floor as far from the bar as possible. We’re all going to have to take turns helping him out with his daughter.”

“Why can’t we just hire a nanny? It worked for Hellcat.”

“Because we can’t trust anyone right now. The last thing we need is to move the wrong person in here.”

“But you’re gonna move the cop in?” Kujo asked.

“Yes,” Erik replied.

“Do you have a point?” I asked.
