We were currently sitting in the back room of the clubhouse where they held Church. It was the first time they’d allowed an outsider in here. Hell, it was most definitely the first time they’d invited a cop into their inner sanctum. I wished it was for a better reason. My Avenging Angel was always running headlong into danger, but that was just who she was.

Her tenacity was one of the many things I loved about her.

She was usually the type to have a plan, but this time was different. Ever since that fuckwad stalker Dirk vanished, she’d seemed like she was constantly on edge from not having any control over the situation.

“We’ve got to do something!” Hunter yelled, breaking me out of my thoughts. “She could be anywhere.”

If he wasn’t careful, he would betray his true feelings for their sister. I was certain that at least one of them had already worked it out, but his demeanour was not that of someone who saw her as a crew member. He was acting like a concerned boyfriend.

“You don’t think I haven’t looked?” Erik replied. “I’ve got eyes and ears everywhere, and no one has seen her or heard anything.”

“She didn’t just vanish off the face of the earth,” Hunter argued. “She’s gotta be somewhere.”

“We won’t get anywhere yelling at each other. Liam has been scouring the internet for any sign of her or whoever took her,” Kujo added.

Just as Hunter wound up to launch into another rant, the Prez's pocket emitted a buzzing sound. He lowered his eyes to the phone's display and creased his brow in displeasure. He quickly swiped across the phone's screen to answer the call, then set it on the table in front of him and clicked the speakerphone button, allowing us all to listen in.

“Moreno, what can I do for you today?”

“I think it’s what I could do for you,” responded an unfamiliar accented voice.

The only Moreno I knew of was Cristobal, a name that resounded with fear among Sinaloa— the head of the Moreno Cartel. The rumour mill was abuzz with talk of how he'd recently deposed his uncle and previous head of the Cartel with a violent display.

They found his uncle hanging in the centre of the town where he ran his empire from, with his own cock stuffed in his mouth. The way they left him called into question whether it was his nephew or an angry father.

No one knew for sure, but that didn’t mean his hands weren’t bloody from his other dealings.

“I’m listening,” Erik responded coolly.

“Have you misplaced something precious?” Moreno inquired pointedly.

If this was the who had her, it sickened me to consider what she had been through in the last week while we searched for her. The Moreno Cartel was heavily involved in the distribution of drugs and the illegal trade of people. Harleigh was the ideal victim for their usual targets: her blue eyes twinkled, her blonde hair shone, and her beauty was striking.

“Yes,” Erik answered. “Do you know where we could retrieve it?”

“I might.”

“How do I know you’re not the one responsible for her disappearance?”

“I have no reason to go to war with you. Besides, you’re not the only one who lost something important to them.”

“I see.”

“As a sign of good faith, I need a favour.”

“Name it.”

“My sister was sold by my uncle. The last I heard, she was smuggled into your country. I can’t leave right now with everything going on down here, so I need your help to get her back.”

“How do I know I can trust you?” Erik’s phone instantly pinged with an incoming message.

“Check your phone for her coordinates.”

Erik glanced down and tapped the screen with his finger, then with another tap, he shared his screen to the flatscreen on the wall. The image was a map with a pin. The pounding of my heart was so intense, it felt like my chest was going to burst.

A tiny insignificant marker on the map held the location of my whole world.

“I will get my guys going on it.”
