Just then, Dylan put his hand on my arm. “Tell her to drop him off here.”

“Are you sure?” I mouthed at him.

He nodded. “It’ll only be for a few hours, right?”

“Fine,” I told Sarah. “But I’m not home this evening. I’ll send you the address. You can bring him here and I’ll look after him.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Sarah squealed in excitement. “I owe you big time.”

This day just kept getting crazier and crazier.

“I guess we’re babysitting my friend’s son for the night,” I told Dylan. To my surprise, he almost seemed excited about the idea.

A short while later, Sarah was outside Dylan’s apartment with her son, Caleb, in tow.

“Thank you for doing this,” she said as soon as I greeted her at the door.

“It’s no problem,” I replied. “Though, I didn’t expect to be babysitting tonight.”

Caleb peered around my leg, trying to get a view of the penthouse.

“You can go in,” I told him. “Let me just say goodbye to your mom.”

The five-year-old pranced inside. I knew Dylan was already there to keep him company and show him around.

Sarah glanced inside the apartment. “Are you with who I think you’re with?” she whispered coyly.

I nodded. “It’s not a big deal.”

“I knew it,” Sarah laughed. “It was bound to happen again. Are you sleeping together now?”

“There’s nothing going on between the two of us,” I clarified immediately.

“But you’re at his apartment on a Friday night,” Sarah remarked. I could tell she didn’t believe me. “Do you mean to tell me that you’re here for purely professional reasons?”

“It’s… a long story,” I told her, sighing. “I’ll tell you all about it later. Go enjoy your date.”

Sarah nodded and hugged me goodbye.

“A movie,” she chuckled as she turned to walk away. “Kathy, your life is a movie.”

I shook my head as I closed the door behind me. Movie or not, I was stuck babysitting a child with my pretend boyfriend boss.

Chapter 15

Dylan

“Thanks for letting Caleb come over,” Kathy said to me when she came back into the living room.

I had already acquainted myself with the little guy. He had been curious to see me when he walked in. He looked a little overwhelmed by the size of the ‘play area’ in my place.

“I don’t mind,” I shrugged, with Caleb sitting right next to me. “We’re already best friends.”

Caleb nodded eagerly. “Kathy is he your boyfriend?” he asked innocently, looking at her and then back at me again.

Immediately, Kathy’s cheeks turned bright red.

“Um,” she hesitated and then shot me a panicked look.
