I stared out the windshield, watching the rain glisten in the headlights as it fell.

“Youarehelping me. With a ride home. Then you’ll be helping me byleaving.”

I was aware of the way his lips tipped up at the corner and his brow arched, but I forced myself not to turn my head and acknowledge him.

“I can make it all go away, Cadence. The bills. The stress. The worry about how to take care of it all.”

The glare I leveled at him should have told him to stop, but he plowed on like he didn’t notice.

“I have the money—”

“And I have the pussy.”

I cut him off before he could finish what he was saying, but I didn’t need to hear it. I knew how he saw me.

“You’re not going to buy me this time, Leo. I sold myself once, for my brother. I’m not going to whore myself to pay a few bills.”

The car rolled to a stop in front of my house, and I flung myself out the door before he could see the angry tears building. I was hurt, but it wasn’t just about how I thought he saw me.

It hurt because it would have been so easy to do what he wanted and talk myself into it. To claim it was for my family and take his money to deal with my problems. It took so much to say no, and I was tired of carrying the burden.

Chapter Four

Leo

Cadence was out of the car before I could stop her, but I wasn’t letting her leave things the way they were between us. I darted into the rain after her, and she didn’t hear me coming until it was too late.

I wrapped an arm around her waist from behind, and my other hand around her throat, stopping her in her tracks. I was careful not to apply pressure to the slim column in my grip as I pulled her against me, purring loud enough to drown out the sound of the rain. Her pulse fluttered under my fingers, the racing beat betraying her emotions as the scent of her engulfed me, and the rain drenched us both.

“I told you I wasn’t through with you, Cadence. You can’t brush me off and think I’m going to forget about you.”

She shivered against me. I couldn’t help the erection that throbbed between us and grinding it against her was pure reflex. I needed to show her what she did to me.

Tucking my nose against her neck, her honeysuckle scent filling my lungs, traces of both fear and slick mingling with it in the perfect blend of erotic aroma.

“I didn’t get enough of you. I want more, and you’re going to give it to me.”

“I’m not a whore you can buy, Leo. You can’t pay to have me whenever you want, then throw me away when you’re done.”

Her quiet whisper didn’t hide the tears or anger in her voice. She really thought I saw her that way.

“No, you’re not a whore,” I murmured into her ear. “I simply want to offer what you need, in exchange for what I need. You don’t have to work so hard when I can take care of you.”

She sniffled, the small hands clinging to my arm trembling despite the way she tried to hold herself rigid.

“What do you want from me?”

She was even quieter, and I almost didn’t catch her words, but they sent a fresh pulse of blood to my groin. I ran my lips along the shell of her ear.

“You let me have something precious. Priceless. You showed me something I haven’t seen before, and I want more of it.”

I paused to flick my tongue over her pulse, needing to taste her. I wanted so badly to bite down and claim her, but it wouldn’t do any good. Her scent told me she still wasn’t close to her heat, and since she’d never had one, a claim wouldn’t take.

“I miss your innocence. I want your time, and your l—loyalty.”

I stuttered on the last word, my mouth wanting to let a different l-word slip. It shocked me into silence, but it made sense the more I thought about it.

I wanted her to love me.Toletme place my mark on her neck and bond her, tying us together forever.
