“Please, babe. Come on,” I urge. Carter chuckles and reaches for his jeans. He grabs a pouch from his back pocket and holds it up for me to see.

“Payback for the goddamn Brussel sprouts dessert. I’m upping my game, Minx.”

He takes out a device that’s shaped like an egg and grins as he pushes it between my legs. I bite down on my lip and look at him in curiosity. Even while we’ve been dating, we never stopped playing pranks on each other, but they’ve never been this daring. My heart is racing when Carter grabs his phone and uses an app to turn the device on. It starts vibrating deep inside me and I nearly come there and then.

“I dare you to keep it in throughout dinner, baby,” he says, grinning wickedly. “Try not to come.”

He laughs and I try my best to glare at him, but I’m feeling too damn good. “Ugh, playing dirty, huh?”

I’ll need to think of a way to get back at him for this. He’s definitely going to keep me right at the edge for hours. “Damned Devil,” I mutter under my breath, making him laugh.

Carter leans in and kisses me, pulling away to look into my eyes. “I love you, Minx. You’re the girl of my dreams. You know that, right?”

I nod and thread my hands through his hair. “I love you more, Carter.”

He shakes his head and kisses me again. “Impossible,” he whispers. I pout when he pulls away and grabs his clothes.

“I’ve stayed away too long already. Mom will definitely come find me soon. Tonight, though, baby. One way or another, I’m having you.”

I fall back on my bed as Carter walks out the door, intent on making myself come at least once. There’s no way I can get through dinner otherwise. I’m going to be a needy mess by the time I finally get Carter alone again.

Chapter 34

Carter

Emilia’s face is flushed as we sit down for dinner. I bet she wishes Mom didn’t invite her dad over tonight. She squirms in her seat opposite me and I smile to myself. I’m so fucking hard just watching her. She’s doing really well hiding her arousal, but my Minx has always been transparent to me. The way she bites down on her lip, her rapidly rising and falling chest, and those rosy cheeks of hers… Her eyes meet mine and she looks at me with such desperation and arousal that I have to bite down hard on my own lip to keep myself in check. This was meant to torture her, so why the hell am I the one that’s suffering?

“Honey, you did so well,” her dad says.

Emilia smiles up at him while I nod in agreement. “4.4 GPA. That beats mine,” I tell him proudly, and he nods.

“You’ve done well too, son. Your dad told me you’re starting your own company?”

I nod awkwardly and clear my throat. “Yes, sir. We’ve secured all the required funding and are just about finalizing the platform we’re building. We’ll go through a round of security testing soon. I actually hired some of the best hackers to try and get into our systems. We have a lot of testing left to do, but we should be up and running in a year or so. I’m currently working on building relationships with big corporations. I’m looking to make our platform as user-friendly as possible, so I want it to be possible to do things as simple as grocery shopping with one of our cards. It’s the partnership stage that’ll make or break the business as I envision it.”

I don’t dare to tell him we’ve acquired funding to the tune of millions. It still makes me nervous to think of all the responsibility Asher and I have taken on. We cannot fail — it simply isn’t an option.

John nods and glances at me with interest. “Sounds very technical. I’m sure you’ll do fine. I’m proud of you, kid.”

Dad nods and claps me on the back. “You have done well, Carter. We’re all really proud of you.”

I look down and nod in thanks. I’ve stayed as quiet as I can about my business. Neither Asher nor I are the bragging type. Besides, our business can’t even be called a start-up yet.

John turns toward Kate and smiles at her. “How have you been doing at college?” he asks.

Kate looks up at him, startled, and then looks back down. “Um, it’s been okay,” she says. “I’ve had a lot of fun.”

To my surprise, John bursts out laughing and nods at her. “Good for you, Kate. Emilia and Carter have always been incredibly serious, but you’re only young once. I’m glad you’re at least enjoying your youth. Make sure you help them have fun a bit too, okay?”

Kate grins up at him and nods. She hasn’t actually told me what her current GPA is. It can’t be great if she won’t tell me. I’m worried Kate is having too much fun. Emilia and I have been so wrapped up in each other that neither one of us has paid much attention to her. I’m not even sure what she’s been up to, or who she’s been hanging out with. I don’t want to be an annoying brother, but it wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye on her.

Mom walks in with a whole roasted chicken that looks delicious, and before I even have a chance to, Emilia jumps up to help her. The two of them carry in dish after dish, and I stare at the table in surprise. Mom has clearly outdone herself — she’s prepared us a whole feast.

I glance up at Emilia and grin to myself as I grab my phone. I open up my app and increase the vibrations . She jumps and looks at me with wide eyes, shaking her head subtly. I grin up at her, tempted to increase it even further, but I want to keep her at the edge, not push her over it. Not at dinner, at least.

My phone buzzes and I glance at it in surprise, only to smile when I realize it’s Emilia.

Minx: Turn it off, I’m dying
