“You sure pissed in her Wheaties. I don’t know if that speech will do you any good or not. It might just make her worse.”

“If it does, then I’ll have to bring her ass up to the members. I’m not fucking interested and I’m tired of her trying to convince me otherwise.”

“I don’t blame you. A few guys went there a couple of times when she first got here and they regret it. She tries to get into my pants too. I think she does it to everyone, but I noticed she does it more with you. I think she sees you as the one who got away. You were smart to steer clear of her.”

“I was, not that it’s helped. Can I get you something else to drink?”

“Nah, just taking a break. I think I’ll head to my room soon. This scene doesn’t interest me.”

As I watched, I saw his gaze linger a few seconds longer on Coyote, who was over in the corner, chatting with one of the ladies who came up from town. I couldn’t tell if he was upset or not by it. My recent wondering about their status with each other came to mind. Hell, what did I know? Maybe Coyote was talking her into joining the both of them.

We chatted for about five minutes then he said goodnight and headed down the hall. It wasn’t long before I saw Coyote leave the common room. He was alone when he did. Hmm, interesting. It was almost one a.m. before I was told I could go to bed. I didn’t argue. I was dog tired and I would have to get up and clean in the morning. Thankfully, I didn’t have to work this weekend. As I crawled into bed after my shower, I thought of Tonya. It was thoughts of her and what I was feeling in regard to her that I fell asleep to.

??????

After a restless night of sleep, I was up and back out in the common room by eight. The place was quiet, which suited me fine. Luckily, no one had made too terrible of a mess, so I was able to clean the tables, bar, and floor rather quickly. I was just finishing up when Lance came stumbling in, looking bleary-eyed. He groaned as he sat down on a stool at the bar.

“What happened to you last night? You look like death,” I told him.

“I drank then hooked up with Bebe. She got me to drink more. My head feels like it’s about to fall off.”

“Listen, you’re an adult, but take my word for it. Don’t mess with Bebe. She’s bad news. She’s out to trap a biker. If you don’t want her doing something crazy, like poking holes in condoms or shit, I’d stay the hell away from her,” I warned him.

“You’re just jealous she doesn’t want you. She told me all about how you’ve been chasing her and she keeps telling you she’s not interested,” he said back quickly as he scowled at me.

I gaped at him in shock. As soon as I regained my speech, I set his ass straight. “She’s lying through her fucking teeth. I don’t want her and never did. She keeps coming on to me and I turn her down. I have no interest in her whatsoever. I’m telling you to watch her not because I’m jealous, but because I don’t want you or any of the others to get caught by her. She’d never make any of us a proper old lady. You’d be miserable with her as one, mark my words. Besides, as a bunny, she’s not allowed to tell any of us no. If we want her, she has to sleep with us or stop being a bunny.”

As soon as I finished telling him that, I got back to work. He slowly got up to wander off. He didn’t say anything else to me. I prayed he listened.

I’d finished up the cleaning and was about to see if there was anything else that needed to be done when my phone rang. Thinking it had to be one of the members calling me to do something, I quickly answered it. I didn’t bother to look to see who it was. It wasn’t a member. It was Gordon down at the station.

“Morning, Jake. You said you wanted to be notified if we found Dan Ewing. Well, we got the call that he’s been spotted riding around town. A squad was sent to track him down. Hopefully, he’ll be brought in soon. I thought I’d give you the heads-up. Is his wife still staying at the compound?”

“His ex-wife is staying here, yeah. Thanks for letting me know, Gordon. As soon as he’s brought in, would you mind letting me know? I’ll bring her down to the station. I want her to fill out a restraining order request and it’ll work out perfectly if she can do it while he’s in a cell and we can serve it before he makes bail.”

“Sure, I can do that.”

“Did you send someone over to her apartment? If he’s going to go anywhere, he’ll go there. He has to think she might be home. I don’t think he knows she moved over here.”

“That’s the first place they plan to check for him. After that, we’ll see if Knoxville PD will check out the racetrack. He might go there to practice.”

“He might. He has a race coming up soon and he’ll need to get himself ready.”

“I can’t believe Dan Ewing acts like this. I really liked watching him race, but if he’s an abuser and doesn’t take care of his kids, I have no respect for him. Okay, I gotta go, but I’ll call if I hear anything. Talk to you later.”

“Thanks. Talk later.”

Once I hung up, I found that I couldn’t sit around waiting and doing nothing, so I decided to go over to the guesthouse and update Tonya. Sure, I could’ve waited until they had him for sure, but I figured she’d be relieved to know it might be over today. I rushed out the door and over to the house. I could hear the kids inside playing, so I knew they were awake. I knocked hard on the door. It didn’t take long for her to open it. I drank in the sight of her. She was in shorts and a tank top which hugged her body. All of her gorgeous curves were on display. I had no idea what she’d looked like before she had kids, but her body after three was lush. I fought not to stare at her like a creeper.

“Law, good morning. Come on in. Is everything alright?”

I followed her inside, shutting the door behind me. I followed her into the kitchen. Dylan was swinging in a baby swing, watching his older siblings laughing about a game they were playing on the living room floor. I took a seat as she poured me a cup of coffee. I took it gladly.

“Everything is fine. I wanted to tell you that one of my friends at the station, you remember Gordon, just called to tell me that Dan was seen around Dublin Falls. There are cops out looking to find him and bring him in. As soon as they get him, he’ll call me back.”

“Oh, thank God. I thought he’d never show his face again. I can’t believe he’s stayed away this long. I wonder where he’s been and where he’s living now?”

“We’ll ask him as soon as we bring him in. I wanted to talk to you about that. I think it’s in your best interest to ask a judge to grant you a restraining order against him. Before you say no, hear me out. You were right the other day. He’s not going to stay in jail. He’ll likely be fined and let out of jail within a day, maybe less if he has a lawyer. He needs to be given a reason to stay away and the threat of him being arrested for breaking a restraining order might do the trick. He’s a public figure who relies on fans to make money. How many of them would be likely to support him if he becomes known as an abuser and lowlife who doesn’t support his kids? I think his image means a lot to him. I don’t think it’ll hurt to try.”
